SH-12/SH-4 Coil Tap Sound?

How "authentic" is the single coil sound of these two pups tapped? What about the Full Shred neck and '59 neck?

I'm sorting out what pups to get for my Carvin. 25" scale, mahogany neck/body with ebony fretboard. Didn't come with a coil tap, but I'm going to install one. I generally go for .11's or so. What can I expect from these pups tapped?

Any experience or information would be helpful. I'm leaning towards the Jazz neck right now, and I'm 100% going to go with the SH-12 for the bridge.

Also, this is kinda off topic, but it seems like the SH-12 isn't all that popular. Why is this? Its personally my fav SD pup, I've dropped it in a few guitars with great results. (Never one with a coil split though)

Thanks.

Re: SH-12/SH-4 Coil Tap Sound?

I have a split JB in a Hamer. It's authentic in the sense that it is an actual single coil when I have one coil off. It doesn't sound like a Strat exactly, because a JB isn't two Strat pups stuck together. However, I find that it does the trick in so far as conveying a single coil sound in the context of a band playing. The sound is that of a punchy SC pup. I like it. While I don't use it a lot, it gives me a decent contrast in sound just though pulling or pushing a tone pot.
