They are real Seymour Duncan pickups !!!

Yeah, analyzing the parts of which the p'up was made, I came to the conclusion that they're FAKE. Those baseplates have never, ever been used by Duncan, let alone the Custom Shop!

They're *not* Bonamassas, not even Duncan either. Nice stickers, and surprisingly high attention to detail, though. However, they didn't get the right parts for the Bonamassa model, as they don't use 4-con leads, only vintage braided.

They got the screws and the output leads so right they're virtually indistinguishable for the ones Duncan actually use. Also the faux ageing of the covers look quite alright, if you ask me.

If I didn't have the experience I have with Duncan products and their production codes, I could've easily fallen into the trap.

Caveat Emptor indeed!

HTH,

the L tooling marks are on many base plates and has nothing to do with the winder. i dont know if those sh17 are pulled from the gibsons or not, although i am surprised they are 4 conductor and use that baseplate if they are real

Hi guys, did a little digging and can confirm that these are real. This is the OEM set we made for Gibson. We don't have any in stock any more, but I was able to check the bill of materials, and the bottom plate, 4-conductor wire, and sticker are correct.

If it exists, Joe will get his name on it. He hasn't caught up with Gene Simmons...yet. Can the Joe Bonamassa lunch box be that far off?

Gene Simmons is the only person I know of who out-whored Carroll Shelby (auto racing) for endorsing anything and everything put in front of him. I wouldn't be surprised if Carroll had signature edition cat food. Joe hasn't caught him or Gene yet, but he's definitely working overtime....

Well, there you go, I stand corrected.

the bottom plate, 4-conductor wire, and sticker are correct. View attachment 79465
Well, as this particular non-vintage, extremely asian-looking baseplate was used in those p'ups only, that were sold only in Gibson guitars, I had good reason to suspect about being fake and absolutely nothing to go on to think they actually weren't, short of being employed in the production floor @ the Co. ;)

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

It's actually the same bottom plate we use for the Invader, and a few other pickups, just without the Duncan logo stamped on it. Not sure why Gibson chose that particular bottom plate though.

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

The JB "merch" pays for his collection funds. I for one can't blame the dude for doing what he does. He lives off music and gear. Not a fan, but having owned both sets of his SD runs, Seymour and MJ hit it out of the ballpark if you want something special
