SH-18 Covered V.s. Non-covered.

Hey guys, first off I'm a bit of a noob so I would appreciate your patience with any stupid questions I may ask.

I'm planning on getting a set of the "whole lotta humbuckers" for my G-400 and wire them up with the Jimmy Page schematics.

For pure aesthetics I would like to run the neck pup with the cover and the bridge without.

My question is this, when you purchase them from SD are the covered pickups produced any differently to offset the (miniscule I know) effects of the cover?

I was planning on just getting the set with nickel covers and then removing the cover from the bridge...however if that would create a different sound then just ordering a bridge pup separately that was produced without the cover I'll go that route.

Thanks.

Re: SH-18 Covered V.s. Non-covered.

My understanding is that pickups are wound the same. SD says the covers are pretty transparent sounding, but technically there is a difference.

As an aside, I have seen examples of models that sold with covers may have the paper coil tape on the individual coils, but not the cloth tape around the whole humbucker coils. Might be worth asking someone that has done what you want to do or call SD and ask. Or unless you keep cloth coil tape on standby. You can always see if you can get a production floor custom where they just make your set without the cover in the bridge.

Thanks man. I guess I'll just order the 2 separate to play it safe. or just leave the bridge covered... decisions decisions.
