I have this Orville Les Paul with a SD '59 set with single wire and I want to try the neck pick-up using only 1 coil. There is anyway to make it work this way?
correct. you need 4 cond wiring to split the coil, without opening up the pup and adding a wire to the series connection between the two coils you cant ground one out. it can be done but you can also break your pup and render it useless if you make a mistake. nice looking guitar though!
Wow, cool guitar!
If you have access to a good guitar electronics tech, it is a fairly easy job. However, I don't recommend learning how to do it on a set of really nice pickups. If you have access to someone who has done it several times, let them do it.

The 1st part of that statement I'd take with a grain-'o-salt. The 2nd part, is dead on. I fancy myself a pretty competent guitar/electronics tech, with access to some pretty sophisticated soldering and magnifying equipment, and even I shy away from this particular job. (Mostly due to older eyes.) I actually paid forum bro Zhangliqun to do one of these conversions for me. Duncan also will do it for $20.
