SH-1N/SH-4 (Gonna sound like a newb)

Ok is the SH-1N a ‘59 and an SH-4 a JB?

I bought a used ESP LTD EC-1000 and the seller had just copied and pasted something from like a website and it said it had ‘59/JB pickups. I pulled them out to see exactly what they are because they sound EXCELLENT and I see SH-1N & SH-4 on them. I did some searching in the forum here and I believe that the answer is “Yes” but I just wanted to get educated on this.

model # and friendly name id assume. most people dont know what a sh1n is but if you say a 59 neck humbucker, they have an idea what that is or at least might be.

What you have there is...

A classic PAF in the neck - full warm bass, scooped mids, nice sharp highs. Great for clean rhythm.
A "Hot Rodded" Humbucker in the bridge. Hot - but not scorching hot. Not overly bassy, but with a nice mid push and great singing/stinging highs.

In both on you should get a great full sound where they compliment each others tones, filling in the gaps. As I have said in other threads - this is a great combo in that guitar.

Spend some time with a screwdriver really dialing them in, listen-adjust-listen-adjust etc...

I have to admit that I have to look up the 'friendly name' of many SD pickups when just given the model numbers.

I have one of the old tone-charts, in PDF format, but it doesn't include the newer models. It's too bad that Duncan doesn't do the tone-chart any longer, and doesn't even list the "SH" number on many of its pups. It's like the web designer just got lazy.

Aceman I agree. Sweet sweet tone and crunch with this combo. I have another EC-1000FR that I gutted and put Gibson pups in and I love it. This one sounds very near as sweet and I didn’t have to do all that work LOL
