hi, i got some new pickups from my epiphone lp std.
i bought an SH-4 JB model and a 59' Model Humbucker for upgrade my guitar with but i'm really confused about the position i should replace them.

May i put the JB on bridge position and the 59 on the neck? or the 59 on bridge and JB on the neck?

thanks

which is neck model and which is bridge?

typically its 59n and jb in the bridge. but if the 59 is bridge model then you probably dont want to put that in the neck. it will be too much.

Welcome to the magical world of pickups!
The JB should be in the bridge position and the 59 in the neck position.
You can do what ever you want but the JB will be to dark and powerful for the neck.
The 59 will work in either position.

yes you're right, it's the 59's bridge model and i've put it in the neck, not sure if i should back to the stock neck pup cause the 59 doesn't sounds very nice in the neck position. what do you think about it?

Welcome to the Forum!!:)

I would personally try them both out in the bridge position and see which one you like in that spot the best. I would then sell the other one and get a neck pickup.

+1
Should be able to trade someone in the Trading Post
for the pickup you need

Try lowering the height of the 59 in the neck slot
That should soften it a bit

what sound are you looking for? And what style of music do you play? Yes, the bridge 59 will not sound good in the neck.

Re: SH-4 JB & 59',which one on bridge and neck position?

Put the JB in the neck and wire it for parallel operation (green+white+bare to ground, red+black to hot).

Re: SH-4 JB & 59',which one on bridge and neck position?

There's less than 1k difference in output between the bridge and neck '59 models. That's a noticable, but not drastic, difference. If you swap the bridge model for the neck model, it'll be a bit less dark and a bit thinner.

What I would recommend is lowering the pickups height and then raising the height of the individual polepieces. This will bring out more treble and clarity.

If you really don't like what you're hearing after messing around with it, then I'd recommend switching to a different pickup altogether. That choice will depend on what music you're playing. The Jazz is supposed to mix well with the JB, or perhaps one of the other PAF type pickups, like the Pearly Gates, would be more to your tastes.

I beg to differ. It sounds pretty good in the neck position. I had one in my #1 guitar for almost two years.

The '59n sounds better for my needs, though.

Another very good-sounding bridge p'up in the neck position is the Jazz bridge.

And last, but not least: the king of bridge p'ups in the neck position: The Seth Lover bridge.

Tone for decades, takes mag swaps gracefully and output-wise it pairs up perfectly with most Duncan bridge p'ups like the Custom family, the JB, the Distortion and all other Duncan p'ups in the 13-16K range.

+1. With PAF's the difference between bridge and neck models isn't much, so they interchange easily. A neck model will give you just a bit more clarity and treble, but not enough to lose sleep over if you use the bridge model instead. Some guys want a little hotter neck PU anyways.

In what way?

too boomy. too muddy for my taste. I prefer neck models in the neck. maybe you can explain in what way you like the birdge 59 in the neck over the neck model

That's not what I said. I prefer the 59n in the neck but the 59b works nearly as well. I was asking you why it wouldn't sound good up there and you answered.
