Sh-4 JB - will my gold Epiphone covers fit?

Hello everyone

Apologies if this exact question has been answered many times before; i did do a trawl but couldn't pin it down. I'm replacing stock Epiphone pickups on my Epiphone Sheraton with an SD Sh-4 jb on the bridge. Most UK shops seem to sell the gold covers separate at an extra (£15 or so) charge. Will the stock Epiphone covers fit?

To the best of my recollection, with the Sheraton, it will, but not perfectly. I presume you'll want to switch the polepiece screws too. Here are the cautions: The Epi cover and polepiece screws (including the threads) are slightly bigger than what perfectly mates the JB. Further, the Epi cover and screws are not of the best quality, metal or plating wise. Add all this up and you will be immediately be degrading the sound quality of the JB and you will be oversizing the polepiece threaded holes of the JB to accomodate the Epi screws. Personally, I would leave well enough alone or find a factory gold JB.

Your best bet is buying factory potted gold pickups. The other option is to buy a gold cover specifically made for Duncans. Gibsons don't line up, and I'm not sure about Epi's.

Some Gibson covers will fit such as the ones on the 57 classic and plus pickups but, Epi covers will not fit Duncans. Gibson 490-500 T and R covers will not fit either.

I "think" I have heard Gibson Burstbucker covers will fit Duncans but, I dont know for sure. 57 covers will fit without a doubt.
