Hi All,

Just finished my build of a tele with 2 humbuckers. I slapped in my fav combination - a 59 in the neck pos and a SH-4 in the Bridge pos.

BUT..... I feel like I need a little more "body" og low end in the bridge pick up - can you recommend me a new pick up ? I LOVE the mids in my SH-4 and won't part with them :)

That'll be hard to achieve with a pickup change, because the SH-4 is pretty unique. My first suggestion would be playing with the pickup height. Maybe turn up the bass knob from the amp, play with the height of the '59 to compensate for the extra bass, and then see if the SH-4 has enough lows. If it ends up needing a pickup change, maybe a Distortion or Invader will fit the bill.

What bridge type does the guitar have?

Hi. Find a bass player then. That way you'll get both the JB mids and more bass...

Sour humor, I know, but it's all true. Have you tried an Alternative 8 yet? If it still doesn't quite cut the mustard, maybe the custom shop DeMartini RTM would.

Try an A2 mag in the SH4.

A Custom (SH5) will give you more bass/body.

The OP is looking for more from his JB, so I doubt the drop in output from the A2 would work all that well. OTOH if I'm using a JB and need a little more, the Custom usually does the trick.

Re: SH-4 with more "body"/Low end ?

Gonna be tough to find a pickup that has the mids of the JB with an increased low end. I can get you all kinds of different sounds but keeping those mids with the JB's characteristic vocal sound is gonna be tough.

Being you are in Norway the custom shop can be kind of a pain though it would be by far the best route. As much as I hate to suggest it putting an A8 magnet into your JB will boost the lows and give you a decent shot of extra output.

^^
This, or maybe even a regular thickness ceramic.

When I hear 'body', I sense more mids and low-mids, than just lows. Well, I will come from left field and suggest the Custom Custom. It is slightly quieter than the JB, but has mids for days. It is less open sounding, and quite tubby. Magnet swaps on the CC can yield different flavors, like the Custom or a Custom 5. I don't know if a magnet swap on a JB will help, although it is inexpensive and easy to try at first.

Sorry but I'm a little confused...if you love the SH-4 and won't part with it why are you asking for replacement recommendations? Did you mean you love the 59 and want a bridge replacement? Sorry, just wanted to make sure I was understanding you correclty.

I haven't tried the Mag Swap as of yet but I've heard good things of a UOA5 in the JB
