SH-5 comparisons

Re: SH-5 comparisons

I couldnt believe how well the amp responded...i had JB's in both of my guitars...so without changing any amp or pedal settings i struck gold!

Re: SH-5 comparisons

The SH-5 custom is one of my favorite pickups. It's the only pickup that I've ever had that can play blues, classic rock and even venture into metal. I have it in a SG with a WLH neck and they balance out fairly well.Really surprised me because it was kinda an experiment.

Re: SH-5 comparisons

Heyo Smitty, thx for punching in....so, what kind of tone profile does the WLH have...im turning my focus torward a matching/different in a good way neck pick up...im really leaning towards using a bridge pick up in the neck position. ..it always seems like the neck position pick ups are never the hero, they are the sidekick...i want 2 heros on my LP...so far its the 59'/ Custom - 2nd choice is the Demon, ive even considered trying a JB, ive got a couple in my toolbox....neck pick ups? Who's got the Metal mojo in that position?

By the way folks, I still LOVE the allmighty JB, but, i am going with the Dave Mustaine Livewires the next time i get a guitar that comes with actives....im always looking out for an awesome deal on used instruments. ....its all JB, all the time, just MORE of everything that makes the JB the worlds most popular pickup

I like the Distortion better then the JB in my Strat. I would like to try the Mustaine livewires, and EMG Marty Freidmans set. They are also based on the JB/Jazz.

I just had a session with my Ibanez AS73 semi hollowbody, JB loaded in the bridge and I really love that combo...under high gain it has an amazing mid range growl and contrary to popular opinion the low end is full, tight and articulate. ...its a winner...its funny but i always fall back in love with the JB...I will always keep at least one guitar loaded with a JB

I've got two. It's my lowest gain option.

Re: SH-5 comparisons

Heyo Demanic, what other bridge pick up do you Rock?
Ive got a Nazgul in my 61 re-issue SG---inspirational saturation
Duncan Custom in an SG standard---i dont put the guitar down till' my shoulder hurts
Semi hollowbody Ibby has the JB---Full, articulate and roaring midrange harmonics
OG Bill Lawrence L500XL (with chrome ring)
in my vintage "Lawsuit" Memphis Les Paul---Focused and thick with medium saturation=incredibly articulate under high gain
I love them all

Alternative 8 in a mahogany Ibanez RG. JB in a Jackson DXMG. RCUOA5 JB in a Schecter Blackjack. And an Ibanez V-Blade with an X2N.

Re: SH-5 comparisons

Righteous! Demanic, how cool is that Dimarzio?
So, did you mod your JB with the Roughcast or order from the Custom Shop? More importantly, how does it differ from a current production model?
