Sh-5 Duncan Custom, Beat It solo video.

Re: Sh-5 Duncan Custom, Beat It solo video.

Nice! Sometimes I wish I could play like that. It's not my style though.

Can I make a suggestion?

IMO, the tone needs a little less treble, more mids, and more texture/complexity and warmth.

That cut really points out the tone of the ceramic magnet Duncan Custom and although it's one of my favorite pickups, alnico 2 in a pickup not wound so hot as the Custom (Talking about the EVH/78 I guess!) would give that cut more of the EVH tone - whether he used an alnico 2 pickup for that cut or not! :)

But very nice playing! Congrats!

Thank you very much.
You're right, though in my room it sound warmer than in the video.

Re: Sh-5 Duncan Custom, Beat It solo video.

Love the sh-5. It was the first Duncan I tried, and it knocked me on my arse. I've tried a lot of them since then, but nostalgia rules.

Re: Sh-5 Duncan Custom, Beat It solo video.

Man that solo was awesome...until the final tremolo picking!! Hahaha not bad but kind slow or something, the good thing is taht the easiest part you have everything else nailed!!

Great playing and tone

Re: Sh-5 Duncan Custom, Beat It solo video.

... your tone wasn't bad... nice playing. The backing guitar track however, sounded exactly like the pre-solo riff in Power Station's 'Bang A Gong' w/ its trebley Andy Taylor tone. Cool use of the wah too..

Re: Sh-5 Duncan Custom, Beat It solo video.

yeah, I just heard the original, the tremolo is faster, and there's more details I didn't pay attention to ..., it's never ends :)

I used a phaser there...

Thanks for your comments !

Man, that solo is one of the most rock and roll solos of all time.

And what a riff!

Your version was great, you da man!

Re: Sh-5 Duncan Custom, Beat It solo video.

Thanks.
Eddie's such an amazing guitarist, not that I'm discovering anything new to anyone, but every time I'm listening to him playing that's solo, it's like his guitar comes to life.
I know I'm not anywhere near that, but still fun to try...

Can't go wrong with the 78'. your solo would be extra smokin'.

Re: Sh-5 Duncan Custom, Beat It solo video.

That solo's not the easiest to pull off. I spent a lot time on it, way back when. Your version is better :D And, the Custom is a very cool pickup for harder rock.

Re: Sh-5 Duncan Custom, Beat It solo video.

Thank you for the bump and the comments
I love the Sh-5, maybe one day I'll try the 78' only from curiosity, but right now I have more urgent things to buy
