SH-55n Seth Lover

Just how problematic is the SH-55n Seth Lover in that it is not wax potted? This site states "Not recommended for use with ultra high gain tube amplifiers over 50 watts". Is playing through your own amp with those specs just the problem or any gig situation with other amps in the room/on stage a problem also. Thanks

Re: SH-55n Seth Lover

mine isnt wax potted and ive played thru cranked 50w tube amps and not had any issues. i have pulled the cover off mine but didnt have any issues with it on either. i dont use high gain but a pinned 50w plexi ri and od pedal is pretty dirty

Re: SH-55n Seth Lover

Like Jeremy said.....there are plenty of guys who don't have any issues with it, even using somewhat high gain setups. Depends a lot on the guitar, how you set it up and other factors as well.

I really liked the Seth(n) a lot....wish I still had one. Mine did squeal a bit through my JCM 2205. You can always give it a quick dip in some parifin wax if it's an issue for you. It changes the tone just a touch (and I've done it), but if you're using THAT much gain you likely won't notice the subtle difference. I gave mine just a really quick, light dunk....just enough to get some in the air spaces around the windings and took off as much of the excess everywhere else that I could. Worked fine for me.

You can also order them from the factory potted as a shop floor custom, no extra charge as far as I recall.....just a 4-6 week lead time....FWIW.
