SH-6 Distortion Sound

Was thinking about getting the SH-6 (Duncan Distortion) for my bridge and was just wondering if anyone has any comments on it? Does it perform well under high gain, and what sort of tone does it have?

Thanks

Re: SH-6 Distortion Sound

It performs very well under high gain. The lows stay tight, the lower mids jump out and the highs can cut thorugh without being overly bright. Harmonics are all over the place. And it can clean up pretty well, too. Just roll off the volume a touch and you would't think it was a high output pickup.

thanks for the info! would you say it is better for the style of music i have listed than say, the DiMarzio Evolution?

thanks

Re: SH-6 Distortion Sound

I didn't see any music styles listed in this thread. But my personal opinions on the Evolution are not the best. It has always been a little too bright for my tastes, kind of thin sounding. But I know a bunch of people of absolutely love it.

Re: SH-6 Distortion Sound

oops. The music I play is mostly bands like Opeth, Slayer, Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and bands like that.

Re: SH-6 Distortion Sound

It would be great for high gain tones used by Opeth and such. That's where it excels.

It would be okay for Zeppelin material. Jimmy Page uses PAFs, which are low output, which the Distortion's output is all the way up there. You'll still get great tones though, depending on your amp and amp settings.

Re: SH-6 Distortion Sound

The Distortion should work very well for the majority of what you listed.

The Custom might be a better bridge between Zepplin and Slayer. But the Distortion could pull it off with the right amp EQing.
