SH-6 distortion vs Gibson 498t (4 basswood)

One of my favorite all time bridge pickups for that modern focused 80's metal crunch and lead is a Gibson 498t. I'd say its just as good as any active EMG for metal, only much more natural sounding. (Not so versitile for cleans and coil tapping though).

Threw one in my Ibanez RG with a basswood body a while back and it sounded decent but the frequency response was no where near as flat and dynamically pleasing as it been in the mohogany guitar it came from. Being very midrangy (and a Gibson of coarse), mohogany is obviously what this pickup was voiced for.

Anyways, I'm seeking a very similar sounding hot ceramic, but one that will restore some of the bottom end that the 498t had been missing in the basswood. I'm thinking an SH-6 ditortion might do the trick but only ever heard that in mohogany as well so its hard to say. I'm open to any other PU brands as well. Thanks

Welcome to the forum bro!
The Distortion is a very good PU for your RG!
You can try the PATB2 original distortion trembucker too.It has more midds ,and a wider range.
