SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

much appreciated. i wish i could go online w something other than cel phone, but i cannot. however i will try preview posts for clarity, content, and bullet points in the future. But i can only preview minute portions at a time.

And half the stuff i thumbtype is scripted by the pyro-manic leprechauns in my head anyway...

So i am grateful for the re-edit.

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

thanks for more suggestions guys.....what about my question from earlier regarding those pickup covers?.

Will they fit over seymours humbuckers?

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

Ok this is going to probably sound stupid BUT would these Covers fit over the Invader's BIG outer case? - http://www.guitarjonesusa.com/catalog/store.php?crn=238&rn=387&action=show_detail

I HATE EMG's tone BUT I love how they look.....so I had this Idea of getting a set of killer Seymours and then using these covers.

Do they also affect tone from the pickups?. They are plastic not metal if that makes a difference
Plastic doesn't affect tone. It doesn't help that they tell you nothing about the cover size. You might have to email them for measurements. BTW: I also like that look, or rails.

I actually own those generic emg covers, I was going to use them on another guitar and never ended up using them. I just measured against my duncan detonator which is same size as invader. You won't have any problem fitting the invader in the cover, in terms of length and width. It might not sit as deep as a normal duncan inside the cover on account of the large invader screws but I don't think that is a significant problem.

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

thanks for the replies to that guys that's really helpful. I noticed them covers have the nice little screw holes too and was hoping that they could be nicely screwed in place and still cover the Invader's perfectly SO based on what you have said Franknfilms that should not be a problem then?

edit: I re-read what you said again and realised you answered the question. They wont sit deep enough to screw down because of the Invaders screws BUT they will still cover enough to use them etc. I have a flying V so the white pickguard covers up the screw mounts anyway so you cant see if they are screwed down or not. I just want those ones because they are the best Ive seen

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

Can you show us a pic of your guitar? Or a link to a stock pic? I think I would take the invader look over the emg look every time but I'm not sure what the guitar looks like.

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

Lewisstore, perhaps this would help?

I'm planning on getting one for my Invader.

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

Yeah, it leaves the bolts exposed. I know the Duncan pro shop makes a P-94 like it, and Gibson have started manufacturing their P-94's like that as well.

In all likelyhood, though, these covers seem to be purpose-built for something with square-ended bobbins (like the PA Trembucker), so there's always the risk the there will be little gaps in the corners, due to the rounded bobbins most pickups use. I do know some manufacturers have open covers specifically made for standard bobbins, if I can remember which ones, I'll post the link.

EDIT: Found someone who sells 'em online. I does seem there's quite a difference in depth between these and the Schaller ones, 6 mm to be more precise. I assume if there's any overhang, you'd just extend that below the bottom plate of the humbucker, but you'd have to ask someone else, I've never soldered on any cover.

Furthermore, I think you'd need to cut the pickguard a bit to accomodate pickup covers, since it's shape-cut for humbucker bobbin outlines right now. Soldering on covers means the width of the pickup "body" will be the same as the base plate.

no offence then but if it leaves the tops of the pickups open whats the point? :S unless Im missing something. The covers I want cover the whole pickup to Imitate EMGS. I dont see why you would use these ones. Besides they dont seem to sell them in black either

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

I think Schaller does indeed sell them in black, at least they're avaailable on their homepage. But if you want the EMG look, then no, those won't really help you.

Agreed, I don't know why those "covers" exist.

If I were you I would put all black pickups in that v, uncovered. Zebras would look sweet, but with an invader/normal pickup combo it would look a little weird.

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

does anyone have any experience with the Invader Neck pup?. Im thinking that this could be a good option. I do want the Invader in the Bridge and trying to find a neck pup to match it is awkward. Maybe the 59 etc. The jazz is too bright sounding to match well apparently so I was thinking then about the Invader neck. Obviously it would match perfectly to the Invader Bridge. I wondered how well it will handle cleans AND that great solo tone?

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

You might need to start new thread, with "Invader Neck" in the title. I personally have never seen any discussion of the invader neck so I think a new thread is in order.

Re: SH-6 vs SH-8???!!!

I had it. Not much use, to be honest. The Invader isn't really one of those pickups that you're gonna use for things other then rock or really, really heavy metal. Not saying you can't play that in the neck, but you're pretty much gonna be using the bridge 99,999999% of the time.

I stuck a PG with coil split in the neck on my axe. They're not really matched for sh*t output-wise. It's really more of a versatility-thing. This way, i can get some nice, clean sounds without having to switch guitar.

so would say the Distortion is the better one to get?..or even the Dimebucker? is that better
