SH-8 Invader or Pegasus...?

Hello there :)

I watched tons of videos about Seymour Duncan pickups, until I narrowed my choice to SH-8 Invader and Pegasus, but it is now a great dilemma for me, because I still can't find comparisions of these two in a bridge position, which include solos... and such comparision is important to me, because I prefer playing solos on the bridge pickup and I need to get the proper sound. The problem is, that I can't afford buying both, neither I have got an option to test them...
The guitar I am using, and I plan to put the new pickup on it, is Ibanez RG7420 and I play mainly progressive rock... You can hear my works here, so you can get more specific idea of my style.
I would be grateful if someone can give me more detailed information about the pickups I mentioned and eventually where I can find the comparisions I need.

Thank you in advance! :)

Re: SH-8 Invader or Pegasus...?

Depends a lot on the amp, but I'd say you want a medium-hot pickup. I'd definitely recommend the Pegasus over the Invader for that. You may also think about a Dimarzio, the Liquifire 7 may work well for you in the bridge.

Re: SH-8 Invader or Pegasus...?

The Pegasus was designed with prog rock players in mind but the invader isn't a bad choice by any means. If you want more power and a thicker sound the invader is it. The Pegasus will be not as powerful but more clear.

Thank you all for the information! :)
I am now using mainly BOSS GT-8, because I have no amp right now - had got a Marshall Valvestate 8080, but I sold it... Now I plan to buy ENGL Screamer, so this could be some reference...
From the last video with Keith Merrow, I actually like a little bit more the sound if the Invader, but according to the fact, that I play a lot of arpeggios, maybe the Pegasus is the better option if it has got clearer sound... I am still confused :onder:

The main difference tonally is that the Pegasus has a sharp upper-midrange spike, even more than the JB, and tighter, while the Invader has a really crushingly tight low-end. You gan get a decent amount of clarity form the Invader, and even harmonics, but the Pegasus is the undisputed winner in that contest. It comes down to what sort of tone you want, and how much output. The Invader might be a little overwhelming if you want to play smooth, clean stuff on the bridge pickup, and the Pegasus might sound too jagged, but I think the Pegasus is much more versatile. If you're looking to play non-metallic stuff, the Invader is much less usable.

Well, the rest of my compositions for the album (which are not recorded yet) are pretty much Jason Becker/Tony MacAlpine-styled and I don't plan to play extreme metal on that guitar so I assume the Pegasus is the overall winner in this situation?

If you like Jason Becker what about going for his sig pup The Perpetual Burn?

Well... you're right, but I live in a third world country, where one not custom humbucker is almost one month salary or my food for two months ;)

Haven't tried the Invader but I have a Pegasus and they are very versatile and has a good clean tone.

So... as far as I can see from everything said, the choice would be Pegasus :)

Now, let the money saving begin! :D

Thank you all for the information :)
