SH-8 Invader?

Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I'm planning to replace the JB on my Schecter C1 Classic because it simply lacks the chug for high gain stuff.
I've had my eyes on the DD and Invader for quite some time, but from the recordings I hear in this forum I'm more attracted to the Invader's massive crunch. Will the Invader be too muddy for the guitar? It's a maple/walnut neck through with mahogany wings and a quilted maple veneer.
I mostly play metal/shred but never downtune, only down a half step at most. Soloing will not be an issue because I hardly ever solo with the bridge, and would likely buy the full shred to accompany the Invader. If there's a specific sound I'd like to nail, that would be Gus G's tone on Firewind's Burning Earth album.
If there's a better alternative for serious chugging riffs that you'd like to tell, you're more than welcome.

Re: SH-8 Invader?

I have schecter c1 and I have a Custom 5 in mine. It is the tightest pickup I have tried including another guitar I have with a DD. It doesn't have as much output as some other pickups, but that allows me to turn the dirt up on my amp a little more. You could also go with the Custom for similar effect, but higher output. I can't comment on the Invader as I don't have enough personal experience with it. But for seriously tight chunk both the custom and c5 will do you right. Especially in a mahogany body.

Re: SH-8 Invader?

Hmm but isn't the Duncan Custom a bit less ballsier than the DD or the Invader? I know that both the Custom and DD are quite tight, but does the Custom provide enough bass and mids to compete with the DD?

Re: SH-8 Invader?

The Custom has more bass but less mids than the dd, a more scooped sound. I personally like to boost the mids on my amp, and that pairs up perfectly with the custom. It gives a really tight crunch for power chords, but nice cutting mids for soloing. They are both great pickups and both have plenty of balls. Like I said I don't have enough experience with the invader to comment.

Re: SH-8 Invader?

The invader is the ballsy'ist most agressive pickup I think you're going to find, and still manage a good lead tone.

No it won't be muddy in that guitar. If you want a perfect example of an invader, listen to james hetfield on master of puppets.

It walks all over an EMG81 when it comes to crunch.

Re: SH-8 Invader?

Thanks for the replies!

Heard the custom, not quite enough meat.

Swapped the JB with an Invader and the Jazz with a DD neck, and whoah!

The DD sounds super chunky and articulate for alternate picking and the Invader literally plays itself!

The compression on the Invader actually makes it really good for legato and tapping runs! Massive chug!:bigthumb:

Thanks again guys!

Re: SH-8 Invader?

i was thinking about getting a distortion
but after doing a little more searching i found that
the Invader was used on the recording Master Of Puppets
so i'm gunna buy one as soon as i gets the money haha :)

After some experience with it, I've found that the Invader sounds way too muddy and lacks articulation. I doubt that Hetfield actually used an Invader in MoP.

Re: SH-8 Invader?

i know this wont help much, i have an invader in my les paul. great pickup but just too muddy for me with the mahogany/maho/rosewood guitar. you might love it since it's oing in a way brighter guitar than mine but it's definitely a high powered kinda warm pu.

i dont know what to say other than that.

oh and it pretty much overdrives anything it touches

Hmm. I thought my Invaders did MOP type tones perfectly. The only problem was that was about ALL they could do for me. Certainly it's a much heavier pup than a Custom or Custom 5.
