SH and TB?

Well, I'm planning on purchasing a few sets of duncan pickups for my guitars, I know which models I want and all that, BUT what I don't know is what the SH and TB in front of some models mean. Tried searching both the forum and the FAQ for any explanation but couldn't find any, so I'll just ask.
Only thing I've come up with is that TB stands for TrebleBucker (I think), but I still have no idea what this means, or what SH stands for.

If anyone could explain I'd appreciate it, I'd like to know whether I should buy SH or TB.

Cheers

Oskar

Re: SH and TB?

I don't know exactly what SH stands for but if I had to guess, I'd guess the first letter of Seymour's name and Humbucker. TB is short for "TremBucker".

Don't sweat the SH/TB too much. All SH vs TB refers to is the string spacing. SH models are normal humbuckers with normal Gibson string spacing. The TB models are slightly wider to accommodate the slightly wider string spacing that tends to come with tremolo bridge setups like a Floyd Rose -- basically the same thing as DiMarzio's "F Spacing". That's it. The only difference between a SH- and TB- pickup with the same model number. The winds are the same wire gauge and pattern, the pole pieces are the same type, the magnets are the same type, etc.

A SH-6b is the same pickup as the TB-6, save the TB-6 is a little wider. The SH-1b is the same as the TB-1, again save for the width. You get the idea.

Re: SH and TB?

As far as I know SH stands for Standard Humbucker.

TB usually goes well in bridge and SH goes well in neck.

Re: SH and TB?

If there's a difference in width, couldn't this result in buying the wrong one and it not fitting?

Re: SH and TB?

That could be an issue, but really only if the pickup routs were so tight that the current pickups barely fit to begin with. If you want to buy a TremBucker spaced pickup because you have a tremolo style bridge, I wouldn't worry too much about it, but it can't harm anything to take a few measurements.

Re: SH and TB?

I just installed a JB TB4 wth a nickel cover in the bridge position on my Les Paul Studio. the pickup is slightly wider then the Gibson 498T. I had to trim the sides of the pick up ring to get the pickup to fit properly. If you purchase Trembucker without a cover you may not have to do this.

Re: SH and TB?

I installed my Triple shot rings round my TB-4 JB
the instructions said the cover trembuckers wouldn't fit in the ring
