SH5 Custom -> SH14 Custom 5 = Just mag swap?

Re: SH5 Custom -> SH14 Custom 5 = Just mag swap?

Ehy ehy guys just calm down eheh
As someone wrote before, that DC reading IS influenced by temperature/humidity/goodness of the reading instrument/oxidation of the reading instrument tips and so on.
A DC resistor reading won't ever be influenced by the magnetic field generated by the magnetic itself. Not on this Earth.
it just raises confusion and questions if it is the same wind I think.
As I'm a diyer, I think those wrong values just help to keep a "secret veil" over SD products. Let's say a pickup-wounder-guy wants to get close to the tone of a SD pickup: he should get that particoular pickup, unwound it completly and get the exact n° of turns which it's composed of (with a good approximation at least) + the gauge of the wire.
By the way, 300 Ohms won't ever be audible - not through a guitar amp for sure, which is an ultra lo-fi thing.

Thanks anyway guys, I'll go on a SH5 ;)

p.s. do you know if AddictionFX has some alnico5 mags for 7 strings pickups?

Re: SH5 Custom -> SH14 Custom 5 = Just mag swap?

I'd like to try a magnet swap in my Custom Custom, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the different magnet choices, and roughened and etc.

If I want to make a Custom 8, and a regular Custom, do I just need to order one Alnico 8 magnet and one ceramic magnet? Or would I need two of each?
Roughcast/roughened?

Re: SH5 Custom -> SH14 Custom 5 = Just mag swap?

This reminds me a lot of the EVH thread. Why worry so much about getting it exactly the same? If it sounds good, it is good. Do you like the Custom? Use the Custom. Do you like the Custom 5? Use the Custom 5. It's not that difficult, and it's not an exact science.

Re: SH5 Custom -> SH14 Custom 5 = Just mag swap?

Actually... resistance readings can be changed by the magnet... IF there are coil shorts. But that's a situation most pickup manufacturers try to avoid.
