Shape Shifter tremolo just died

Hey guys I've been using a Duncan shape shifter tremolo for a few years now and it has been nothing short of excellent. But the other day it just flat out died; it wasn't acting funny, hasn't been mistreated or exposed to moisture. When I gig I always use a hard case so I don't think wear and tear is the problem.

So it got pulled from the pedal board and my friend, who is much more skilled at these things than I, opened it up and took some readings. The board looks pristine, there is no visible damage but one of the caps was reading faulty. We got that replaced and still nothing, no lights or sound.

Has anyone had a similar problem with this pedal? Any ideas guys?

Re: Shape Shifter tremolo just died

I've had trouble with my pickup booster going in and out, or out completely. But that was after I let it sit for four or five years. I took it apart and used tuner cleaner on anything that might have needed it (switch, pot, jacks). To me, the SD pedals seem to do really cool stuff, but don't seem that well built. The Pickup Booster works fine, but seemed kind of cheesy inside (though the case is nice enough).

In fact, your pedal is going to be my next one. I just got rid of my Wiggler because I plan to get a shape shifter. The reason is simply for the tap tempo. That adds so much usefulness to a tremolo effect.

I'd probably try calling SD customer service about it. They tend to stand behind their products and could probably get you up and running again.

I too would love to pick up a Shape Shifter for the tap tempo function.

I'll try the cleaner and go from there, thanks guys. The Shape Shifter is actually a solidly built pedal. It's got some weight to it and the board/wiring are put together cleanly. It is a transparent, great sounding tremolo I'm just confounded by its sudden refusal to work :banghead:
