Sharing my Duncan equipped Basses.

Hello Duncan fans,

My name is Mykk. I am a Hard Rock bass player. I'd like to share my Duncan loaded basses.

Here's my family. My rig is an Ampeg SVT-IIP into a BBE 382i, feeding a Crest Vs1500 2ch power amp that powers a Fender PRO 8x10" & Mesa Boogie 2 x 15". The Line6 BassPODxt Live is used as a Pre-pre amp for tone shaping as well as mild effects.

The Squier Vintage Modified Jazz-V has SJB3-5's. I ordered this bass specifically to play around with pickups and wiring. The SJB3's, CTS pots, .1uf tone cap, Series/Parallel switch and Babicz full contact bridge have transformed this bass into a wonderfully sounded asset and it get's used in my Alternative Dance/Rock-Electronic/Female fronted Pop band.

Also pictured is the custom frankenstein Precision with SPB-3 & SMB4a pickups. A mismatched pair for sure, however I've made it work with some experimenting and custom wiring. This bass is primarily used in my Dark/ Electronic/ Industrial band.

The Epiphone Les Paul Bass, a pawn shop find that has been a really cool bass as an alternative for my Jazz's. The original pickups just recently failed and eventually stop producing any sound at all. I was hunting around for bass humbucker replacments. Than I got a wild hair up my ass to try a set of HB's on the guitar market.... Ok, so if I'm going to use guitar humbuckers in my bass, I need them to be blade style without the 6 poles. I came across the SH13, and started to research it a bit. High output, high DC resistance and a high resonance peak.... interesting.

After reading reviews, and coming to the conclusion that most guitar shredders did not like this pickup. Reading complaints of how bright it was and how the high frequencies were shrill like. I than decided, ok I'm going to make this SH13 'Dimebucker' work in my bass.

Removed the broke pups:

Re-wire the bass with 250k CTS pots and parallel the .022uf caps on each tone pot.

Bolt down the SH13 "Dimebuckers", as you can see thanks to the Korean made LP body the pickup routed holes don't line up with the strings quite right. However, with the new pickups it still sounds even from string to string this way.

Curious as to what Dimebuckers sound like in an Epi L.P. Bass?

The black & maple American Jazz bass is my #1 go-to show & recording bass. But you don't want to hear about that since it's got active EMG's :naughty:

Thanks for taking the time to read my story, if you have any suggestions I'm all ears. Cheers ~Mykk

Right on cool deal. I own 3 bases and none have duncans in them. Not for any specific reason though. The EPI with the dimebuckers sounds alot cooler than i would have thought. Cheers

Very cool collection of basses there and really love what you've done with the pups. I love to see real players experiment in a unique way and come up with what they like (not necessarily what others told them they should like).

Very interesting sound in that Epi.

Cool clip! Very tight sounding low end, and meaty mids too!

Good job! and welcome to the forum!

Re: Sharing my Duncan equipped Basses.

Today, on the Les Paul. I had a volume pot act up on me than later on a tone pot did the same. I must have hurt them internally while heating up the body to solder the grounds (?).

I removed the pots and decided to experiment with different wiring combo's. I currently have it in 'Megabucker' with a 1M resistor parallel to simulate a 1M volume pot. After attempting to sim a tone circuit with various caps & resistors I opted to run no tone circuit, it sounded the best. In my past experience running two humbuckers in megabucker makes for a huge low end and squashed highs. Not in this case, the Dimbuckers sound amazing in megabucker with great bite in the highs. I'm going to keep it this way for a bit.

Very nice rig dude. I love the 2x15".

Thank you. I love the Mesa 2 x 15" cab. Sounds much better than the 810 in the same pic. When I play smaller venues that don't have the room for my full rig I bring my rack and that Mesa cab, it sounds great.

You put Dimebuckers in a bass... haha, man, you belong on this forum. Welcome :friday:.
