So, a few suggestions:

#1 I'd go Kahler, but Floyds are sleazier.

Man, i’ve always wanted to try a kahler. I’m always in the lockout for a guitar with one but they’re just rare.

The body route is another nice thing compared to the floyds. One hole. Bam.

But dayum, why are they so fricking expensive?!
I can get a Gotoh GE1996T for $125, so it’s hard to justify spending $300-500 on a kahler — more than I what I have in the rest of the guitar’s parts haha!

Yet, still have a hunger for one..

If I came across a JC Rampage in person and I liked the neck, I would buy it right there. But even in ATL, I know of only one G&L dealer, and that was 10 years ago.

If keeping the bridge, just be sure to get a killer job done on the nut and locking tuners.

So got just about everything in and, well, Houston we have a problem.

Both necks are too narrow from both body pockets.
I’ve got another strat I’m tempted to disassemble and see if they’re too narrow for that too.

If i’m reading everything right, it’s 0.03xx too narrow (for the Tracer)

I’m measuring 2.154”-2.297” for neck heel (54.7mm-55mm)?

Pocket supposed to be 2.1875 (2 3/16”, 56mm)

Yep. You need some shims and you'll be fine.

Add exact same width slice of wood (maple?) to each side of neck with wood glue, clamp and dry overnight, then try to sand each side equally a little at a time until it fits — sound about right?

You realize that that will ONLY affect esthetics. It actually will not affect tone at all. And when it is fully assembled and operational, only you will notice that the neck is slightly narrower that the pocket.

Can't argue against that. For my 80's HSS, one was loaded with a Custom, and the other a Distortion when I was chasing Lynch tones.

Speaking as a guy who plays in an 80's hair band...I have guitars with Distortions, Customs, and JB's. Can't miss with any.

Of course, custom color Super Distortions or an X2N could easily work...
