Sheilding Question

I've just carried out a couple of mods on my Legacy. It's a little noisy as it's got 3 ssl-1's. I'm proposing to sheild the body route, and wanted confirmation that I'm doing it correctly.
I'm going to use tape rather than paint. I presume that once you've covered the route you have to connect it to the guitar earth? Any help, o wise forum brothers!! :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :help: :thanks:

1. Shield the cavity (tape, paint, doesn't matter) and overlap the shielding onto the surface of the guitar around one of the pickguard screwholes. (When you install the pickguard, the aluminum foil will be in contact with the cavity shielding.)
2. Shield the pickguard (Spray adhesive and aluminum foilworks just fine.)

When done right, the pots will be in contact to the pickguard shielding - no need for grounding wires to the back of the pots, thereby eliminating ground loops)
Run a wire from the trem claw to a screw into the shielded cavity.
Wire and ground as usual - done.

I wired three guitars as described - it works great.

I'm about to shield my strat also, and I have one question Arkitkt; what about the pickup grounds? Where do they connect to? I understand that the wires that are usually soldered to connect the pots together can be taken away after the correct shielding process, but the pickup grounds also usually go to the back of the pots. Should these stay there? Or where would they go?

Having tried both, paint is MUCH easier to work with, and the results are much nicer. Just my opinion based on experience!
