SHE'S A KEEPER-Mystery Guitar #2

Re: SHE'S A KEEPER-Mystery Guitar #2

Mike, does your g/f know you're flamer? :laugh2: (j/k)

6 pedals? Sheesh, I'm lucky if I have 3 out front. Most of the time it's 2, some sort of boost or OD and a wah. The delay, chorus and buffer sit in the loop. But like I said, I swap things in and out like crazy looking/listening for the right one. That's the the downfall of DIY and modding.

Jeff, some sort of Japanese Anime character? Just a guess.

Re: SHE'S A KEEPER-Mystery Guitar #2

Almost certainly an Epiphone, Washburn or Yamaha

Re: SHE'S A KEEPER-Mystery Guitar #2

it's 4 in front (1 being a tuner) and 2 in the loop.

this is my new setup...

TU-2 tuner...tremonti wah...whammy...OC-2 octave...front of amp

line 6 MM4...Line 6 DL4...in loop

nice and simple! so it's only 3 actual sound changing pedals in the front and 2 in the loop.

Re: SHE'S A KEEPER-Mystery Guitar #2

Well, I'm gonna take a stab that it's an Edwards.
The only Ryoko I can think of is from an anime series that used to air on adult swim. I can't recall the name atm though.

Hey ErikH. Check your pm's heh.

Re: SHE'S A KEEPER-Mystery Guitar #2

Mike: Similar to me, just a few more in there, especially the tuner. I don't have one in my rig. The pedals I have in the loop sit on the floor behind the amp so the chord are as short as possible. They're always on anyway.

Truant: Got the PM. Will reply sometime today.

Nice guitar. I hear the name a lot but I have no idea where to get them? I wouldn't mind a nice backup for my LP that wouldn't require giving gibson more money

I got mine through Ebay...and the seller was in the US (individual not a store). There are japanese dealers though you can buy from online. Right now most of them dont have the new stuff up.

Mine is believed to be a 2003 model and barring a couple of small "wear" spots, it basically like new. It has quite a few upgrades: RS electronics kit .Gibson 57 classics. Gibson Historic pup rings, Dunlop Straploks, and a Gibson Truss rod cover. also included the case, original zebra Tokai PAF's and pickguard. Quilt laminate over maple cap. Mahog body/neck. Bone nut (factory). Chunky R9 type neck.

All for the low low price of $775 shipped.

I'm looking for another...its that good.

Looks good, Jeff. I really like the top.

Thanks! I figure most people would like it...I just hate quilt for the most part unless it's VERY subtle. I'd like to get it refinned a Goldtop. The back is perfect for it (those are the sellers pics, and it's a little lighter in person).

Mike(Xssive) Japanese. I wouldn't have got it otherwise. Most of the korean Tokais are either alder bodied or there's a fellow in Canada who imports the Korean models with mahog bodies. Korean models have maple necks for current production I believe as well. (not necc a bad thing).

Very nice, I've been scouting the 'bay, waiting for my tax check. Have you tried any of the MIK models. I played several of the MIJ ones when I lived in Japan but have not seen a MIK in person to try one.

I've not seen the MIK ones except on the web. I would def go with the Canadian ones just cos it's got a mahogany body. Good reviews on Harm Central. (he sells 'em on ebay..there's a ton of em..JD something guitars)

Kindred: Build quality is basically the same. i.e. EXTREMELY good, and considering what they cost (new) makes them both the best value I've ever seen. Where they differ is feel and how "authentic" they are.

The Edwards has a thicker poly finish on the back (tho a Nitro top). The Tokai finish is also satin poly but is not as thick and feels more like Nitro as it is. The previous owner polished the top and neck a bit and it looks feels even more like Nitro. The back picture is the unpolished section. On the Edwards it was hard to see the wood grain of the back. The Tokai as you can tell is very easy to see the wood grain on.

The Tokai has "correct" binding. Thick and wide, same color as a Gibson ..it's actually "cough: better than most :cough: Gibsons. Not the thin "fake" and "faux aged" look of the Edwards. The Tokai has the med-jumbo low wide frets like an R7/R8 Gibson. Edwards has taller Jumbos like you'd get on a Jackson or ESP.

The Edwards feels and plays like a Jackson, or Ibanez, or a PRS that is shaped like a Les Paul. It feels very "modern".The Tokai looks, feels and plays like a Les Paul.

Re: SHE'S A KEEPER-Mystery Guitar #2

Very nice. He has some really pretty colors and versions.

To me they look like they are just better finished Korean Epis. Might try posting over at the TokaiRegistry? And do a search at Harm central... ALS48 I think is the model? or NLS48?

Re: SHE'S A KEEPER-Mystery Guitar #2

Probably made at the same factory, but I have owned and played some nice Epi's.

Agreed. That is my suspicion. As well as the Korean Dean models which I've been researching alot lately.

Agreed as well. I've played some nice Korean epis, though I find the Chinese made Epis on average to be better for QC and tonewood. My SpaceAce was built pretty well overall, and had a great piece of wood in it. Popped a fret and the neck joint was soft though.

I think for the $, I'd just go witha Japanese model. They universally seem to get high marks. Better wood/pickups/hardware/QC for not a whole lot more $ (just harder to find).

Re: SHE'S A KEEPER-Mystery Guitar #2

what was the website of the dealer in japan that would ship to the states? I'm drawing a total blank.
