Shielding cables vs shielding cavity

Hi!
I wonder is there a difference between using shielded cables and shielding the cavity?
Pot, switch, jack has pins which are bare with only shielding cables.
Does shielding make it quieter?
I know Gibson has shielding cables, whether adding a shielding paint/tape will reduce noise?
Thanks

the shielded cavity, if properly grounded could have an improved noise rejection, but it's a good rule having both anyway

Shielded cables don't shield the pots/switch/jack.

Doing both is best, but shielding the cavity (and grounding all components to that shielding) is much more important than shielding the wires.

I've used shielded cable from the volume pot to the output jack. The rest would be regular insulated wire for any hot and ground connections. One of my guitars has cavity shielding, an 80's Kramer Baretta. Those without, no excessive noise. The P-90's do under gain but that's typical. Shielding the cavity may lessen it but won't eliminate it with single-coil pickups. The poles will still pick up some external interference.
