Shim material?

I dropped my Bailey-Bean from its stand in a drunken stupor last night and broke its brass nut loose. I widened one of the slots while trying to smooth out the nut slots (using Gearjoner's sandpaper method) last month, so I want to shim the nut up and have it properly cut.

What kind of material should I use to shim a brass nut on an aluminum neck?

Why not just get another little peice of Brass to shim it?

Or an entirely new brass nut?

I'm sure where I'd get one. A quick check of Stew-Mac's site turned up nothing.

The nut is still perfectly useable (the guitar is only three months old) so I'd hate to waste it. The slots just need some slight dressing and I'd rather just give someone a few bucks to run a file through them real quick. It has a nice sculpted shape to it also, most of the brass nuts I see are just blocks.

Use a little piece of sandpaper, or maybe a piece of a business card.

Chances are the local guitar fixit guy will have a '70's drawer' full of brass nuts, Schallers, and Super Distortion Dimarzios...

I'm sure where I'd get one. A quick check of Stew-Mac's site turned up nothing.

The menards here in rockford has brass sheet (various sizes and gauges) you could get some from the menards (or lowes, home depot, ace hardware, farm'n'fleet, etc...) nearest you. Just cut off whatever size ya need and there ya go.
I think they also have much smaller peices of brass in the hardware section (where they keep screws, door knobs, magnets, etc...) too. But the smaller ones tend to be way thicker, so you'de probably be better off with a small sheet of brass. They're about $12-20 depending on what size sheet ya get, if I remember correctly. I haven't checked that sorta stuff in awhile, so they might not have it anymore, I dunno, but its worth a look. I know they also had aluminum sheet (and steel) too, and it tends to be a little cheaper. That would work too I'de think.
