Shipping an OVERSIZED 4x12 Cabinet...

What would you recommend as the safest, most efficient ways of shipping an oversized 4x12. It is larger than your typical Marshall dimensions. Not exactly sure of the dimensions (I'll measure if it is really necessary), but all I know is that I cannot find a box that will fit this sucker!

Please tell me some options I have. It's the Mesa Standard, if you care to know.

Call Guitar Center and find out when they get their shipments (usually Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Call back on one of those days in the morning, and see if they received any Recto cabinets. If they did, have them set a box aside for you and go pick it up.

Or, go trash digging in their dumpster. I did that on Wednesday looking for a box, and ended up with a box, packing materials, a cymbal stand, and a 2x4 foot 5 inch high, steel reinforced small stage they used to put amps on, covered in rubber diamond plate \m/.

I've tried GC and in return got a very dull response that quickly turned into a "No".

Sorry to interupt your thread Guitarist. But you have to admit, that is a damn good find for a dumpster. :laugh2:

Plus, DSS has a point. Dumpster diving behind GC might not be a bad idea for finding boxes(and in his case, other things too).

That really sucks. Are there any appliance stores around you? You might be able to find a big washer/dryer/refrigerator/something box that would fit the beast. Maybe even one of those huge TV's could have a box that would fit it.

I'd basically just find a box that would fit it, line the inside edges of the box with more cardboard (essentially "double" boxing it), then put the cabinet inside of a trash bag (or three) to keep the tolex from being dinged up. Find some (dumpster at GC provided these) of those hard as **** cardboard amp corners that heads come with, put 1-2 on each corner of the cab (over the trashbags), put it in the box, filler the empty air up with standard peanuts/styrafoam/newspaper/whatever, and be sure to insure it!
