Shocked and Excited!!!!

I have been un-happy with the pup tone on this LP for over a year now. Not wanting to break the bank, I dropped in a set of GFS "Brooklyn" Dearmond style pups. Dude for the money these things rock. Being a country guitarist I love their twang factor while still being rich and warm for distorted sounds. I can not believe how much I dig this guitar now.

Re: Shocked and Excited!!!!

congratulations, I've never heard of them. What are the prices like? Any other interesting models?

Re: Shocked and Excited!!!!

I paid $30 each for this set. They have a ton of other pups. I'm not sure it is cool to post another pup site here so I will send you a pm.

Re: Shocked and Excited!!!!

That's freakin' awesome! I love that GFS is doing their best to make some unique pickups that aren't found on the market and best of all, are offering them for a very nice price. GFS is the first pickup company I've seen to really hit on various styles of pickups in a humbucker housing, heck, here are just a few of the designs: P90s, vintage DeArmonds, Filtertrons, a PAF/Filtertron hybrid, Lipstick. I haven't seen anyone else do these and one of these days I'll just have to order some and mess around with them.

post away. no one is going to complain. those have a bit of a retro look to them.

Re: Shocked and Excited!!!!

I have a GFS Brooklyn in a little Epi LP Jr. It transformed that guitar into a twangmonster!

Re: Shocked and Excited!!!!

i have heard nothing but rave reviews of gfs pickups. imo, you can't go wrong with the price they are going for.

Re: Shocked and Excited!!!!

I've been curious about the Tele 'Lil Punchers' or 'Hot Lil Puncher.' They're supposed to be Barden copies......and we all know how much Bardens cost.

The best guitar for the money, IMO, is the 90's pre-Fender DeArmonds.
If you click on my gear page, you can see my M-72, which I think was the absolute best DeArmond. It has the DeArmond USA pickups in it, and they sound great, especially the neck. It's hard to believe DeArmonds go for around $300 on Ebay, because they feel like $900 guitars.

Re: Shocked and Excited!!!!

I seriously don't understand how these pickups are as cheap as they are. I wish I knew what type of alnico they used in the soapbars. I would like to try one.

Re: Shocked and Excited!!!!

I have two GFS Bigmouths and I am very happy with them. They seem to take the road less traveled. I want to try their Filtertron models.

Those pups look awesome, and really add a nice touch to your Paula. If they sound as good as you say, that's killer bang-for-the-buck. I may have to check them out.

According to GFS they ship US components to Korea to be asembled to their specs, not sure how much of that is true.

But, the GFS guy got cornered on HC about using a single-coil bobbin in the Dream 90s, not a P-90 bobbin and he admitted to it...

I've never played a Dream 90, but I think that would make it much more narrow in response than a true P90 pickup.
