Shop Floor Custom extra cost

Hi everyone, long time lurker but I finally have a question of my own that I'm struggling to find an answer to.

In short, how much extra does a Shop Floor Custom order normally cost?

I'm in the UK, and after some research I'm looking at getting a Pegasus/Sentient set for my PRS SE 7-string, which normally retails for about £170-£180 in its standard form. To suit the aesthetic I'm going for, I'd like to order them with gold pole screws and with nickel covers (ideally brushed nickel but I don't see that as a listed option on the Shop Floor Custom blog post explaining the options, so I can do that myself if needs be). Now, I recently got my local SD dealer to email SD for a quote, and they came back with £390! I queried it and apparently both the distributor and my dealer thought it odd, but even then the best price they could get for me was £270.

So is it normal for Shop Floor Custom to come out £100 more than base? The impression I'd gotten from browsing this forum was to expect a small increase but not much. Is it something to do with the particular specs I'd like?

What it's considered "normal", when you're in the EU, is to be ripped-off by the distributor. Plain and simple.

If you get the p'ups and the covers (unfortunately, I don't have any brushed, raw nickelsilver, 7-string covers in stock, and I'm not sure I can get'em, as my suppliers don't list any 7-string guitar parts), I can do it for you.

I'm in Italy, so the postage won't be a deal-breaker.

I had a feeling it might be that. I'm going to email a couple of other UK dealers to see if it was just my local one ordering full custom shop by mistake or something, but if they're all coming through the UK distributor I doubt it'll make much difference. If it's going to cost me that much I may as well save money and get Bare Knuckles!

I can't find 7-string pickup covers anywhere either, apart from a couple of Chinese double-row ones on eBay that don't list any measurements, so I don't trust them; nor do I want the double-row look.

Adding a cover to a Pegasus or Sentient kicks the price from $99 to $135 right off the top. Are 2 pickup covers worth almost another entire pickup to you?

Hello! Hope this helps. I've spoken with our UK distributor and the correct full RRP for this special set is 325.00 gbp. The selling price is up to the dealer, but I'd expect this particular set to street for about 250.00 gbp. Cheers!

Thanks for the insight guys - I feel somewhat stupid for it not occurring to me that the covers would be extra, given it's an extra part and extra labour; the £270 quote doesn't seem too bad now. I might still look and see if Bare Knuckle do something similar to the Pegasus/Sentient, but from all the demos I've listened to I'm pretty sold on them at this point.
