Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

I’m eyeing a set of modern pickups to match my vintage style Strat.

I like the Fender Aged White color plastics on both Parchment and Mint pickguards. Is Duncan Parchment the closest to Fender Aged White?

If I wanted two Stack Pluses in Parchment and a Humbucker (deciding between JB, CC and C/59) in zebra Black/Parchment, could a Shop Floor Custom order do this or is it Custom Shop?

They seem to already make the Stack Pluses in parchment, and they also offer parchment humbucker bobbins. Since you're asking for a custom build of stock components, I'd think a Shop Floor Custom would do it.

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

I couldn’t find Parchment Stacks, have you seen them?

I've never seen them in the wild, but it's listed as an available color for the various Stack Plus models on the SD site. While they list individual pickups in parchment, the full sets only seem to be available in black or white.

Yes, I know from personal experience. SD parchment color doesn't match with pure white color schemes. The color definitely has an "aged" quality.

Quick searches of eBay and Reverb show some Stack Pluses in Parchment out there, as Shop Floor Customs that the retailer ordered from SD. You could also ask the retailer to order parchment humbuckers as Shop Floor Customs. This probably doesn't need to go the full-on Custom Shop route (with the attendant cost).

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

This doesn't really answer your question, but I want to point out that Duncan parchment and Fender parchment are very different.

Duncan parchment is quite noticeably yellowed. It isn't anywhere near as heavy as cream, but you can definitely see the yellow right away. Fender's parchment is really just a "dingy" white, not really yellow. Fender's parchment is a very nice option for those who want a white guard with no obvious yellow in it, but who find fresh, pure white to be too brash. Duncan's is good for those who want some yellow, but not as much as cream.

Given that, I might assume that the "aged white" is different between the two companies as well.

Yes, that’s why I’m wondering if Duncan Parchment is close to Fender Aged White.

Here’s the guitar, the pickguard is Fender Parchment and the plastics are Fender Aged White. I like the contrast between them. At first I had everything Parchment but it didn’t look right.

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

I'll be finding out soon. Ordered SD floor shop custom humbucker in double parchment. Plan on installing it into Strat with Fender aged white SC's and knobs. All of the pics of parchment plastic I've seen on-line look different, either off-white or closer to Fender aged white some light yellowish. I'll post pics soon. Ordered 6 weeks ago this coming Saturday.

Awesome, I look forward to your pictures!

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Just in. Custom Shop Duncan Custom Model Trembucker in Parchment. I knew going in that it would not be close to Fender aged White plastic. Here are some pics of my Blizzard Pearl Strat with Mint pickguard and aged white plastic parts and pickups. Also reference pics of Parchment pickup on a white plastic background and one of parchment pickup sitting besid a Zebra JB model. I installed the pickup (properly with S1 coil split) last night, no pics of that yet. So, I love the tone profile of the Duncan Custom and can't wait to crank it through the Boogie tonight. Custom shop did an awesome job of completing my special 3 mounting screw legs as wellSD BOX.jpg42.jpg4.jpg3.jpg6.jpg. I can convert it back to a 2 mounting legs if needed.

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Excellent reference images, thank you!

How does the Zebra (cream) look compared to the aged white?

Now we just need itsabass to pull the color profiles from Fender and set the color balance perfect on your images!

I'll snap the Zebra JB next to the aged white next chance I get. It looks a bit darker in the pic but the lighting was off on the zebra pic. Installed, the parchment throws the color scheme off so I'm going to try to find some parchment plastic to get everything closer. Who knows what I'll end up with. does Fender even make parchment covers for the noiseless single coils ? No clue. Is Fenders version of parchment even close to SD's version ? All part of the hobby/quest. For now, it just sounds kicka@@ and that's all I really care about at this point. More to come....Happy hunting.

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Here's the Aged White V Twin Fender pulled out of the Strat next to the Zebra, Cream JB. Pretty darn close. the Cream is actually slightly darker.
Now, if I could only get the Parchment closer to the aged white...hmm. Any ideas ?

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Thanks again!

I’ve heard of coffee, tea and shoe polish being used to dye a bobbin.

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

I'm testing a minwax pine stain on a white fender single coil pickup cover. It has to be sanded with 220 or lighter for the stain to take. Probably go to 1000 grit and stain again.. The color is pretty close to the fender aged white. I'm debating if I want to sand the Duncan pickup, I might have to sand the logo off plus I'm worried about stain seeping into the pickup. This is the first time doing this. I may change the color scheme altogether based around the parchment humbucker.
