Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Here's the Aged White V Twin Fender pulled out of the Strat next to the Zebra, Cream JB. Pretty darn close. the Cream is actually slightly darker.
Now, if I could only get the Parchment closer to the aged white...hmm. Any ideas ?

Ultraviolet does yellow bobbins in time. I wonder if that process can be sped up. I might try leaving it in on the window sill for a week at at time and seeing what happens.

I’ve thought about that too, get a UV light and let it sit for a week. Nicotine may work too.

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Here's a pic of the Aged White Fender V Twin next a white single coil cover-Kiwi brown shoe polish test (for reference). On one side of the cover, it looks a little darker, wear from playing while it was in the guitar. Pretty close. Still debating if I'll so it to the new SD.Fender V Twin Aged White Humbucker vs Brown shoe polish on white sc pickup cover.jpg

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

I tried twice and the brown polish would not take to the bobbin material on the Duncan, didn't want to try more coats and I'm not sanding the bobbins so I left it alone.
I recently purchased an Arctic White Strat with a parchment pickguard. Even the Fender version of parchment is a little different that SD but the pickup
looks fine installed in that guitar. Not all parchment are created equal. Side Note : my brother owns a print shop and works with tons of colors. He says
color matching is a Pain in the A##. I believe him. As for the other strat with aged white plastic, I put the original back in and I'm going to order a reverse
zebra trembucker, SD cream is very close to fender aged white. Still debating model, leaning 59/Custom Hybrid. So-lesson learned.

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Here's the SD Parchment installed into Arctic White Strat with Parchment pickguard. To me, Fender Parchment looks like is has a very slight, light lime green to it. Not Mint. For reference, look at the Warmoth web site Pickguard section, select Parchment and check that shade out. It's more of a light cream color.
Anyway, dropping a couple SSL-5's when they arrive and this will be done. As for the other, still going reverse zebra...

Edit: correction to my earlier post. The Fender pup model is Twin Head Vintage. Not bad, just not for me.

I see the green in it...but that overall, looks great. Wonderful choice!

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

The SSL-5's arrived yesterday and installed last night----here's the final product. The brown background seems to help the colors pop out at little better.
Sounded good on the small Fender SS last night. Will be testing her out on the big rig tonight. Waiting for the reverse zebra delivery to install in the mint PG Strat.
I'll post pics of that when complete.....

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Need better lighting to see the effect. Photo looks pretty dim/yellow; or is that really the color?

Re: the comment about color matching- I used to work in a print shop and have an art degree and the way to match colors is under a blend of incandescent and fluorescent light (if indoors only) or under sunlight. Anything else and it will be impossible.

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Pic with no camera flash, so yes, it's actually lighter but you can see the difference between white and parchment.

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

The Reverse Zebra 59/Custom Hybrid came in yesterday. Installed into Strat with mint pickguard. Knobs, tips and SC pup covers are Fender Aged White. (TOP PIC).
This ends my quest for color matching.....For now !! Oh yea, sounds great !! BPearl Strat-.jpg

Re: Shop Floor Custom or Custom Shop?

Totally spaced out that I have a double cream Evenly Voiced Harmonics in a box....

Here it is against Faded Sonic Blue, Fender Mint pickguard and Fender Aged White plastics:

And here it is against Fender Parchment pickguard and Fender Aged White plastics:

I tried to color correct to a piece of white paper.

If Duncan Cream is the same across the board, a Duncan HSS set in Cream with Fender Aged White plastics and Parchment pickguard would totally work. Now to build a double cream Hybrid or JB....
