Shop Floor Custom

Re: Shop Floor Custom

And just for future reference sake, would anyone care to say who their Sweetwater "make it happen" guy is?

Re: Shop Floor Custom

With so many brands and models now I think there's no good reason not to get the look and sound you want.

Duncan should really really consider setting their online store up like Dimarzio has.
On the Dimarzio site you can select most cosmetic options for a very small upcharge and just order direct. No middle man required.
Changing screw types however is not one of their auto-options,,,,,,so in that case it's probably the same as with Duncan. (needing to be called-in)

Agreed. The new Dimarzio webpage layout is damn sharp looking. (and functioning)

Re: Shop Floor Custom

I ended up getting an additional quote for a matching neck version of the SH6 - Same price .... 105$ ... I guess the gentlemen from the custom shop was mistaken. Or Sweetwater gets better prices. I dunno. Looks like a 2-3 week lead time.

Re: Shop Floor Custom

I'm contemplating installing it now and not waiting on its neck counterpart. It's replacing a nazgul that's paired with a sentient. I imagine the SH6 will work well with the sentient for a week or two. LoL

Mincer,
Hello, what is an "oval or V" base plate? Is that like a Twangbanger base plate??? For single coil only?
Thanks, never heard these terms before.

Re: Shop Floor Custom

Well there it is. It's killer, everything I expected. I think I like it better than the black winter for my purposes. They very similar though.

That's a ceramic pegasus in the neck. I had it laying around and decided to try it out while I wait on the sh6n. It's not great at all. A little dark, and loud. It's tight though compared to a vintage output alnico pup.

Re: Shop Floor Custom

Hey sort of off topic question, what's the difference in the wire color that they're wound with? I notice some pups have the plain copper looking wire and some of newer models like the black winter and the pegasus have that reddish wire. you can see it through the little square hole on top.

Re: Shop Floor Custom

Interesting that this would pop up now. Just got off the phone with a big on line dealer and he told me you guys have now cut off his floor custom orders for the Custom 8. Now that pickup has to come through the full custom shop at that full CS price so??

Did this like just happen? I ordered a shop floor custom tapped SSL-6 three weeks ago from Blue Star Music from ebay, and had no problems getting it.

I think the difference is that magnet type swaps are now custom shop. I think your order is still standard.

I recently got this answer: "This would be a Custom Shop order for a magnet type change."

I tried to go through a big ebay dealer for the SH6 I got and he insisted they wouldn't make unless I went full custom shop. Went through Sweetwater and had it ordered no questions asked for $105. I don't know if Sweetwater just gets more done for less, or what, but I'm starting to think the ebay dealer was full of crap.

Re: Shop Floor Custom

So, as some of you have known, i have been tone quest-ing using various Duncan pickups. There are many that i really enjoy, but others that i like, but could use some "tweaks" so to say. Some of these i know will have to be custom shop orders, but others maybe production floor customs.....?

Full Shred A8 with a row of screws-could be the perfect pickup
Parallel Axis Original w/ A8 mag. This could be something truly magical!
An Sh-9 Silverbird with an A5 and A2 mag Or even an A8 and A2. could be insanely good!

Would these be Custom shop or Floor custom orders?

From everything I've heard, a magnet swap puts you into full custom shop territory, which is weird, because it's the easiest thing in the world to do. That SH9 will surely be full custom shop. It might not hurt to contact sweetwater and have them get you a quote. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: Shop Floor Custom

It's weird that they will do several things that are more involved than a magnet change...yet they won't do a magnet change.
