Shopping again ! Output comparison help

hi -
its been awhile since I was here, you all helped me decide on the Custom Custom and I still love it. (in an old Carvin DC 127)

but,

I want to try the =Phat Cat= in the bridge position. I have a question on the output, and a larger question/confusion regarding the K's in the DC resistance column of the SD charts. Unfortunately the Phat Cat isn't on the charts yet.

From the Products page, it says the Phat Cat has a DC resistance figure of 8.49K Ohms for the bridge, my Custom Custom has 14.1. The Screamin Demon I used to have, which I replaced with the Custom Custom, was 10.0.
The Custom Custom output bar graph on the charts doesn't look that long, although it pushes my amp really well. The Screamin Demon was far weaker, but its output on the bar graph is bigger than the Custom Custom :smack: .

so then I see the Phat Cat output description as "moderate". What does that mean compared to the Custom Custom? I know they're different tones but I really want to keep my amp Gain knob low, and push it with the strong pickup. This works best for me.

Can you help me get this straight, this DC resistance/output question?
And how big is the output on the Phat Cat, to your ears.

I have never tried the Phat cat but, DC resistance is just a small part of the picture when looking at the output of a pickup.

let me rephrase it:

compared to humbuckers you've used, how would we rate the output on the Phat Cat, I mean what did you need to do with the gain on your amp compared to your humbucker guitars?

I have these bridge pickups currently:

Pearly Gates (Hamer Special)
Custom (Yamaha AES500)
Custom Custom (Carvin DC 127-T)
STL-2 Hot Tele lead (Fernandez 50's style tele)
Seth Lover (Gibby LP)
Phat Cat (Epi Sheraton)

I play through either a Blackface Bassman head or a Boss GT-6 through a Peavey tube power amp.

I would rate the output of these pickups in relation to pushing an amp as follows (from hottest to weakest):

1. Custom
2. Custom Custom
3. STL-2
4. Pearly Gates
5. Phat Cat
6. Seth Lover

if you want a different voicing for your Carvin and want to keep a similar amount of output, I'd change the magnet in the Custom Custom for either an Alnico V(Custom 5) or a ceramic (Custom).

hmmm I read about magnet swapping alot here... is this a tricky process, and where do we get the bare magnets?

Not tricky at all. All you do is loosen the four small screws at the bottom of the m=humbucker and carefully ift the coil and push the mag out. I beleive you can get Alnico V and Alnico IV bar mags from Lew. I'm not sure where you can get ceramics, though.
