Re: Short bass roll off/contour video
I have the bass contour on my Reverend sensei, it's a great feature but it falls short when you want to change pickups mid song and have to adjust the contour as well.
Dscythe- Very good point.
When we're working with customers on tone and vol balance between pickups, we tend to use mods other than master contour; preset spin a splits / partial coil cuts and bass cuts per pickup are common with humbuckers and we do a lot of series for singles for thickening instead of thinning- The big advantage of this approach is that they are selected by the switch, so we can really fine tune the balance across pickups. And, a switchable bass cut on a specific pickup yields the same results for that pup as the master bass roll off, except the tuning is usually preset.
Don't know if you got to look at the video that's embeded in the blog (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLSzvzJvV7U&t=230s), but we recommend master bass contours for applications that cross the whole guitar- The clean verses drive example from the video works pretty much the same across pickup combinations with a stock double agent OG-
But to make your point, this Reverend has other mods that do impact balance- For example, it has a bridge paralleled to self mod and if you roll the bass off all the way (while the bridge is paralleled) it can get pretty thin.
Of course, that's just a switching option- it's rare to do both.
Thanks for the input- the tradeoffs between mods are much of the work (and the fun
