Short clip of my 68 Strat

Re: Short clip of my 68 Strat

wah wah:

What string gauge are you using and what woods exactly is that strat made of? Alder body with maple neck and RW board?

That thing sounds bloody massive and has that strat tone I love... kind of a semi bright upper upper midrange barely gracing high treble that is cutting in a peak, but rounded out a little. gorgeous tone there man.

The string gauge is 11-48, tuned to standard. For the past few years I've been using Snake Oil Brand strings, best I've found.

You're on the money with the woods, alder body, maple neck, rosewood board.

You've pretty much described the tone I go for. I aim to get a tone that sits just under a mid to high vocal range, so it has clarity and doesn't compete with vocals, but meets and supports them. That guitar is a very good start point for that kind of tone, the wood has aged enough to be resonant without being brittle, and it's also why I favour the more neutral effect of the SSL-1s and SSL-5 in the bridge over pickups with a more hyped top end. That way you hear more wood and less electronics. It also helps keep overdriven tones warm rather than raspy.

Glad you're digging the tones, it's certainly a lot of fun to play.

Yummy. Great tone and chops man.
I've been trying to squeeze that "precise but round and woody" thing with my Strat. It just ain't happening.

Re: Short clip of my 68 Strat

I am thinking about going up to 11-48 and trying out Kinman noiseless in the mid and neck with either a brobucker in the bridge or an EVH 78 in the bridge with an A5.
