Short Scale Bass build

I need advise on pick ups for a short scale bass build from Warmoth. I like the sound of the Seymour Duncan Hot single coil pick up and have considered using the that neck pickup alone. Hum however is a concern. Should I add a second bridge pickup? If so, what pickup would be complimentary?

i have a short scale bass with firebird pups and it sounds great! four string bass? i like the hot scp and the qp as well. a buddy had a bass with two scp pups vintage in the "neck" and qp in the bridge and it sounded really good

You might consider ordering a second Hot Single Coil P-Bass that is reverse wound/reverse polarity so when used together, they are hum cancelling.

You might consider ordering a second Hot Single Coil P-Bass that is reverse wound/reverse polarity so when used together, they are hum cancelling.

not to make excuses but the namm show just happened over the weekend and im sure that folks were busier than usual getting ready for the past few weeks

Just to close this thread, I bought two SD Hot single coil bass pickups retail. Called Lindy Fralin Pickups, very friendly. They will reverse rewind coil for me. He asked why SD wouldn't do it.

I hope service improves at SD.
