Short scale Strat!!

HI

I just wanted to ask your opinion of an idea I have for my old Strat...

I have a Japanese Strat based on vintage specs (7,5" neck radius) which I do not like after buying an Edwards Les Paul clone with a 12" fretboard radius and a 24.5" scale.

My idea is to buy a replacement neck from Warmoth with a 12" fretboard radius and also converting to a 24.5" scale length. I really love the playablility of my Edwards neck but also miss the stratty tones so my idea is to get a neck for the Strat that has the same radius and scale lenght as the Les Paul but from standard Strat neck materials (maple + rosewood fingerboard).

My question to you guys is have you ever tried or heard a short scaled Strat and could you describe or try to describe what a shorter scale would do to the Strat tone. If it would result in mellowing out the Strat tone a little but still retaining the brightness then I would be a happy man!

Thanks a lot

Petur

Re: Short scale Strat!!

I play a warmoth strat with their 24 3/4 conversion neck. I heart playing it.

Describing it's tone would be irrelevant, because my gtr has too weird of a gtr/setup.

Re: Short scale Strat!!

i played a short-scaled fender mij strat. the 24.75 maple neck came stock. its sure easier to play. also, the tone was somewhat more mellow with less snap than a 25.5 scale strat.

there's no for better or worse. its just what you are looking for. changing the scale of a strat to 24.75 does not make it sound or play like a lp and it sure won't sound or play like what a strat should.
