Should I get a Blues Junior?

Re: Should I get a Blues Junior?

Man, the blues jr. sounds great with my lap steel, btw it has a Seth Lover in it.

Re: Should I get a Blues Junior?

Just get the Blues junior. That way you wont be that guy that has to rely on others borrowing stuff. You can always sell the BJ later when you get your other amp.
Also you wont have to rush your other amp purchase as much just in case your car breaks down or something. Be a man and get yer own gear lol jk ;)

Re: Should I get a Blues Junior?

I've decided to pass on it. The price just wasn't right (he wanted $325 and it needed new tubes). I'll have my new amp by early next month at the latest, and we only have one electric gig between then and now. Either the borrowed Night train or my Cube 60 will get the job done for the gig in question.

Wise decision.

I had a Blues Jr and was not impressed with the tone, I'm not an EL84 fan; I sold it. I just ordered a new Blues Cube Stage 60 (on sale!), endorsed by Eric Johnson, and he's a stickler for tone quality: 60 watts, 30 lbs, and it'll beat a Blues Jr in every category. And no tubes to deal with.

They're usually on Craigslist used for about $350... I'd go that route personally if in the market for one... :)

Should I get a Blues Junior?

I would track down an Ampeg Jet II over a Blues Junior any day. To me, they sound better, and I think they are generally cheaper on the used market. There are two models. One has tremolo and a single tone knob. The other has no tremolo, but has three tone knobs (B/M/T). Both have strong reverb. As for reliability, I don't know if the Fender is any better than the Ampeg. But I do know that I have had absolutely no trouble from my Jet II, and I have owned it since new in '95 or '96. Everyone I know with a Blues Jr. has had something go wrong with it. Nothing major...but always SOMETHING.

The Blues Junior is a fantastic-sounding amp, but keep in mind you really are not going to get pristine clean tones from it at full-band volumes. At least not with a relatively loud rock drummer. Don't know if you need it to?

Just thought I'd point out this post from 3 and half months ago!

I've moved on from the Blues Junior GAS.

Re: Should I get a Blues Junior?

As you are looking towards a really nice tube amp, this suggestion may seem out of place. If you would consider a solid state amp, could the time be right for the purchase of a simple used Peavey Bandit 112?

Re: Should I get a Blues Junior?

I actually ended up getting a Super Sonic Twin. I'll be buying the 41st sometime this winter. I just couldn't pass up the Super Sonic Twin when I saw it. It's a great amp to double pedal steel and guitar. It will eventually be a steel amp primarily, with the 41st being my guitar amp.

Ouch...my back! But I see you're still a young man. Enjoy.
