Should I just save up for this?

Re: Should I just save up for this?

I always got confused about the red box thing. Is it supposed to be a load resistor, too? Or is it just a signal filter? I don't want to blow it up and I have no manual.

Post some of those good videos up you found - so far I've been singularly unimpressed with what I've seen/heard of the TM/GM range - though it's in the kind of output range I want to play in, so can't be dismissed.

Re: Should I just save up for this?

Im gassing for one! I really liked the TM18. And like the extra features of the 36, but never been able to get my hands on one to try it. Then, the GM is supposed to have all the same, PLUS an extra gain stage. When all these lil amps started popping up, Ive been going gaga.. But, Ive kinda discovered that Im not super crazy about high gain EL84 amps. The sound kinda Woolly (?) to me. But the GM soundclips sound really good, with a more open tone.

Re: Should I just save up for this?

Oh...so there are at leasf clips/youtube vids, and a final production model does exist, just not through authorized dealers in our hemisphere?

BTW, if you guys are so hyped about this stuff, why not just buy grey market import?? Hoping for lower US price points? Warranty concerns? Cuz dunno about you guys, but the euro guys routinely buy usa or japan exclusives or just tap our bigger used gear markets (occasionally make a few bucks procuring stuff in cali for eastern europeans myself), and there is PLENTY of cool stuff I'd totally import (mostly japan only stuff tho) if I had the dough.... Problem is, I haven't had the kinda spare cash to buy new, non-clearance gear...well, ever?

Here's a few of the clips. I'm not really going by "sound" so to speak as I'm listening to all these clips through laptop speakers, but the couple I did listen to through a stereo sounded good. A brand new amp like this I'd never buy through the mail, and by brand new I mean new model, nobody's heard it, etc. What really turns me on is that H&K has a great rep for sounding good (again, only in person will I judge), and this looks to me almost like a "modeling amp with tubes" in that it can be midi controlled, can store patches in presets, has included effects, etc. But if the basic amp sound isn't there, it isn't there, and I will not buy it. Oh, and four programmable and storable channels as well...sweet!

Tubemeister 36 midi features.

I assume all "red box" recording from the name of the vid

Re: Should I just save up for this?

So is the Red Box thing any good as far as speaker sims are concerned?
I have one. It's pretty good IMO. Beats the hell out of the Behringer DI.
