should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

sup with the seam on that top

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Maybe try something like this http://reportcraigslistscams.com/ , dealing with the seller directly seems all around pointless. Either he knows and doesn't care, or doesn't know, and won't care.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

The first fret looks crooked in all of the pics where it's visible.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

dreX said it as it is. Personally, I would not contact him. I had a similar deal where a fella listed an old 335 style guitar at $700. He said he did not know much about it other than it was old and perhaps made bu Gibson. I recognized it as a mid 60's Lyle, since I had one just like it. Anyway, I sent him a nice note letting him know what it was, what it was worth, etc.....never heard back from him, but now he has doubled the price and changed the ad to read it was made by Gibson and a bunch of garbage about the 'Lawsuit" era,,,,a piece of history, yada, yada, yada. Can only hope no one is stupid enough to buy it without due diligence.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Did he change the pictures? "100% Original", but clearly shows a Duncan in the bridge position.

Aside from that, am I missing something? It looks like most other Gibson LP Supremes.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Hmm, I guess I assumed OP knew his stuff, but in comparing it to other Les Pauls Supreme, it seems to check out.

That thing is faker than a 3 dollar bill dude... Look at the headstock shape... look at the body shape... the funky seam... even the world inlay on the headstock is wrong. it should have pieces of brass for the continents inlayed in it and they are absent.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Some of those tells are hard for me to appreciate through the low quality pics and funny camera angles, but I see now that, if nothing else, the portion of the headstock that says "Gibson" is very elongated:

A Transparent Black Supreme is relatively rare. I can't say for certain without the guitar in hand, but I have my suspicions. Would like to see the back and the jackplate. Switch hardware s/b gold. Case is totally wrong.

One tip...a Gibson guitar has a particular smell. You can tell a fake by the odd smell about 99% of the time

MF still has these in Wine Red for $2999, so his price is high by $600, roughly.

I have two Supremes, HCSB and Root Beer. Beautiful guitars.

How can you not see the brass inlays are missing under the supreme banner?

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

one thing that these fakes ALL have, and is so ridiculously easy to switch out for an authentic-looking part is the truss rod cover.
the top "bulb" where the top screw inserts through is always more pronounced than on an authentic Gibson.
and it would be easy to change.

also the "Supreme" banner and lettering on the authentic Gibson is at more of a downward angle. the fake is straight across

didn't catch the Duncan pickups, and advertised as 490r/498t

First thing I noticed too.

I really just thought it was the angle of the picture. I've taken plenty of pictures of guitars trying to avoid glare/reflections that make the guitars seem to have odd proportions at the ends of the pictures.

Okay, that part sticks out now that I know what to look for. As for the top, I've read enough complaints about Gibson guitars on here that it just seemed like another case of Gibson's QC. :D

And jebus that fretboard inlay is crooked... And I wonder if the bridge shows an adjustment screw. To blurry to tell.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Clearly fake.

My curiosity has been piqued as to precisely what that guitar was to begin with?

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Frets should be gold tinted for this model.
Looks like a Gotoh bridge on there.

Fun game, spot the differences. Not so nice for the poor bugger who'd actually pay 3 grand for that.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Definitely posting any guitars I want to buy (not at the Chicago Music Exchange) here for the once-over! Very interesting to see the differences!

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

The pic is so bad...that COULD be a Nashville T-O-M bridge. Have to see it close up.

And I have seen Les Pauls develop that center seam split. That would bother me tremendously as a buyer, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it is a fake. If that is a real Gibson, it's worth no more than $1200--1500 with that kind of damage.
