my main problem with the deluxe reverb is that it changed quite drastically the tone of some of my distortion pedals (it has a beautiful blues tone with my boss BD2 but i doesn't like so much my other distortion boxes).........i prefer to have an amp that doesn't distort easily and that has a quite neutral response and shape my sound from my pedals....i was thinking of a fender twin.......is the pro reverb a good choice or should i keep the DRRI?

I've found the the '65 deluxe reverb responds very well to overdirve stompboxes (blues drivers, ts-9's, 808', OCD's) I really don't think that it was intended to have a actual "distortion" pedal in front of it, just something to give it alittle push.

Hell you can buy the Pro Reverb and get one of those Boss 65 deluxe reverb pedals and have both sounds as a possibilty. I know the boss probably wouldn't sound exactly like the real thing but from what I've heard it comes pretty close. Just something to thing about.

yea i agree with es350. thats not my favorite version of a pro reverb, by far, but its still a good amp, and probably much closer to what you are specifically looking for than a dRRi is. es350 is also spot on that the pro reverbs value will go up

Good points ES350.
76' seems to be a transition year for these Pro's. Is it a 40 watt or the 70 watt Ultra Linear ?

Well, if it has a '70 watt' output it's an UL model---UL is not a bad thing in itself; some Z's and a few other amps use this operating class. A master volume and a pullboost are probably other good indicators of the UL models, which started in '76. The general consensus seems to be that lowering or eliminating the NFB in these amps warms them up to BF/SF territory---easy mod. Another weak point of the later 70's stuff is the cabinet design with the dadoed baffle and the lead dress...which can also be modified or cleaned up. Any decent tagboard or PTP amp is a better choice over the cheaper PCB stuff that's been out for the last 15 years or so...

That's similar to the way I feel about my DRRI. Played clean but cranked at about 4.5, it does a pretty good job of overdriving on it's own with all kinds of loud....although that's in my house. At 2.5 - 3.5 a little push, like tubeman87 mentioned, really helps to fill out the sound better at those lower volumes.
That's a tough call on going for the Pro Reverb. Pretty loud amp, that's for sure. If you can maybe you should try your pedals and guitar with that bad-boy and see how they get along. It's up to what your ears like best.

IMO Silverface Fenders are the best kept secret out there. After sinking a little money into that amp you could have a tone monster.
I will say this though. Play them both and let your ears decide. If the SF Fender sounds as good or slightly better than the DRRI, or better yet if it sounds just a tad inferior to the DRRI I personally would go with the Pro. A SF Fender can be made into a monster amp!!!

The 76 Pro Reverb if memory serves has a master volume. I would recommend staying away from these. The MV Fenders leave a lot to be desired. IMHO the DRRI is a better sounding amp. If you can find a SF Pro reverb go for it, its a decent amp. My experience with them is limited, but I remember them being a tad bright.

I had a 77' UL Twin. To say it was a tad bright was a understatement.:laugh2: The UL amps IMO do need some warming up. I wish I knew of the NFB mod ES350 mentioned.:smack: ( I might have kept it) My buddy has it now,And a simple speaker swap did wonders to warm it up. BTW, He put EV SRO coffee cans in it.:smokin: Now you could say it's a tad heaver.:yell:

i will be able to try it this Saturday with the owner that has it and see if we will conclude the trade.........It appears though that it is not a master volume model but a 72 pro reverb with no master volume.......i am really tempted.......the problem is that now he thinks that it is not a fair trade and he wants me to pay for the difference (i know he may be right.....i just don't know if i can afford to pay for it.....)
