i was thinking of installing thicker strings, 13-56 or 59 or the likes on my 25.5 guitar, because my 10-52 just don't do it for a drop-C tuning.
should i worry about the heavy gauge doing too much pressure on the neck or whatever part of my guitar on a standard tuning ?

i use 11/15/19/28/38/56 on my 25.5 scale guitars at standard pitch, you should be fine

nah, SRV used 13s. Just gotta set it up accordingly

Never was a problem on my Strat when I ran .12-.52 strings on it...just had to refile the nut to fit the fat ass strings. :14:

Depends on the guitar.

I used 11s on a Jackson and Explorer and the guitars didn't feel right to me. I use them on my semi hollows and LPs and think they feel fine.

Try them out and see how they feel. If the neck bows too much or you can't get the setup, go back a size and see then.

Jesus Christ, man.:eek5: To the OP, yeah...your guitar will be fine. Worst comes to worst you'll have to crank the truss rod a bit, maybe file the nut.

I used to use 13-56 for B-standard tuning on my Strat (25.5" scale), but I still found that to be a little floppy for my taste. Now I think I have 15-64 on there, and it feels much better. Big changes in string gauge and/or tuning will likely require a good setup.

Your fingers will give out before the guitar will.

That was the original stock string gauge supplied on Strats...at concert pitch.

I run 10/14/18/26w/36/56 for Drop C tuning on my Ibanez RG, which is a 25.5" scale. They feel about as light as a set of 09s in Standard, without the low C feeling too loose and having a mushy sound. If one of your local guitar/music shops sells string singles, try picking up a 56 and see if that feels better for Drop C.
