Well...what is the Death Metal axe of your dreams?
What brand is it..what pups would you choose?
Let's see the rig if you already have it!

I've been recently considering adding a 7 or 8 string axe for those sort of occasions.

I've been looking at the Damien, the M8 Meshugga, PRS new 7 string, and a couple others...ibanez R8a...jackson 7 custom shop...
I'm not fond of Low budget gear..but that's what most of this style is usng.
The Meshugga M8 and Jackson custom 7 are by no means Low budget..

Especially I'm interested in the pups...EMG 60 cruunch like no other..81 and 85 are certain to please...but those are for 6 string.
Lundgren pups anyone?

I already have Blackouts in my Baritone LP and a killer modded amp.

Seems the only thing I'm missing is a 7 or 8 string death axe to round out my personal armoury.

Not to be rude but are you sure you know what Death Metal is?

Honestly I'd be content with a 6-string. But for a 7 stringer I'd like a super strat style body (Ibanez, PRS, Jackson), HH or HS pickup configuration. Not sure what pickups. Definitely passive Duncans of some sort. (If I had no budget and possibly endorsement), I would get PRS, Jackson, or Caparison to build me a uber-quality take on the PRS torero, minus the floyd, plus an extra string. I think 26.5" scale would be ideal.

Well at least we're talking about the same thing.

The Torrero comes with EMG 81 and 85 and has a 25.5 inch scale.

I never can get over 7 or 8 strings for some reason. I just have a bias that most people that use them just chug on the lowest strings and try to sound Br00T4L. The only time I can recall great use of >6 string guitars (exceot 12) is John Petrucci. He uses the full range of the instrument.

IMO, the best death metal was also played on six strings. Just look at Death, Morbid Angel, Carcass, etc.

And my backup guitar is a B.C. Rich Virgin loaded with an EMG 81/85 set wired for 18 volts...

Granted, it's not in the 7-8 string territory; C is about as low as I go with a 6 string guitar. I can get some decent 90s - 2000s death metal sounds out of that rig. It works for me.

Schecter Blackjack SLS C-7 ---> Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier ! It's super simple and i dream of it, but not so much deathmetal, as i'd be playing deathcore !

I've recently got a new jam spot and have started using the MB DR for metalcore/deathcore and it sounds AMAZING with my DBZ Imperial FM for that sort of music!

Have you played an 8-string? Below about A notes start to turn into mush. You also start crowding bass and kick drum for usable frequency spectrum at tunings significantly above that.

I agree with Myaccount876. Plenty of very brutal Death Metal has been played on 6 strings. My personal favorite is Blackwater Park which is all tuned either standard or drop-D.

and a Boss HM-2 in case I ever wanted to get old school tones.

I just wandered off to look at Schecter Hellraiser C8.
It can be had with SD Blackouts or EMG 808.

I think I like it! It seems to come in 2 shades of black, white, black cherry, 2 shades of red.
Sweet.
With 8 strings and my voice prefers to sing in Ab....

The standard remedy is just to tune down 1/2 step and have Eb on the bottom.

Its possible to do other things with string gauges..such as puting Ab on the low end without getting mushy...just loose the E string and move all to the left adding a thin top string and tune down 1/2 step. Not mushy at all.

Carvin has several 7 string models and an 8 string that might work for you. USA made and reasonable prices with a 10 day return policy.

I'm pretty sure I've got enough amp. Only the Paramoure Mod can hit harder than mine..but I ordered mine to be darker than AIC and not quite as hard as Paramoure.

I haven't put my amp up against any of those German Behemoths and I'm not afraid to do so.
I think I'm just digging the EMG 808 sound...something I don't have at the moment.

Luke Jaegar really knocked my socks off...but he normally plays a BC Rich.
I'm doing something in that same vein I guess.

The Bogner Ecstasy Red Pedal is something I've never tried...I will take your word for it...Will investigate tomorrow.
