Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

It turns out that the RG8 is on backorder because of the Holiday rush.
Now is my chance to change my mind and grab a 7 string.
But since I bought from the authorized Ibanez dealer I wont have any trouble exchanging the RG8 for the RGD if that's what I need to do.
A luxury that I would not have if I had bought on ebay.
So I'm still comfortable and I can experience 8 string without risk.
Great!

heh :) I have plans for building myself a seven string. I've got a nice maple neck with some light birdseye, my beloved planet waves auto trim tuners, a brace of 7 string evo pups that i scored on ebay for a reasonable price, a plain fixed bridge, a big slab of basswood, and... some fluffy pink material. I'm going to make a big old heart shaped body, cover it with the pink fluff (think zz top) and then use it for a nasty sounding 7 stringer. I shall call her heart of darkness :)

Shouldn't it be black fuzzy instead? Maybe you could glue and hang mutilated Barbie dolls all over it.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

That's a nice color!

I ended up ordering an Ibanez RG8.... not expensive. Its actualy a 27 inch scale which maes it a baritone axe..strange they don't use the word baritone in the marketing..and I already have a 27 inch scale baritone LP...so I decided not to get a really expensive make and I hear that the neck is like a skateboard which I probably won't like. But if I do like the axe itself I probably will have to upgrade the pups.

The RGX line from Yamaha was supposed to compete with Ibanez RG series and the Jackson Soloist. This Yamaha was called the "Jackson Soloist Killer". Ibanez RG's are supposed to be real good guitars, especially the ones with the 'Wizard II' necks. They are claimed to be the fastest necks in the world, from what I heard! Here's a vid from YT of the same purple guitar like the one in the pics. It sounds pretty awesome thru that amp.:cool2:

interesting idea :) but that's the whole gag of it for me, having a really girly looking guitar (i'm a large burly bloke with a penchant for dressing like i'm the punisher) that makes the nastiest, meanest, heaviest sounds in my guitar arsenal.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

I just changed my order from 8 string RG8 to
Ibanez RGD7421..7 string...26.5 inch scale.
I think Ill like it better..the 8 string is a very wide neck and I already have a 27 inch scale baritone...so
The store changed my order no problem at all.

This with my Super modded JCM800 and the OKKO pedal should do plenty until my DAR amp is ready...

Here it is the 7 string Ibanez RGD7421 26.5 inch scale ...factory tuned to Low A.
ADGCFAD..Ill probably drop it another 1/2 step...we shall see.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

And WTF only one knob?

I can change that..... and maybe some EMG 707's or a custom set of Duncans made just for me.
I'm not sure yet. But I will try the factory pups for a while.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

So the 7 string RGD7421 is actually more expensive than the 8 string RG8.
Its in stock and the dealer was happy to let me upgrade to a more expensive model.
It will be in right after Christmas.
Imma post some tone clips with the OKKO and the Modded 800.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

One knob is good, no need for a tone control. :P

And EMG 707 won't fit the RGD's routing.

How much did that cost overall?

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

Excellent news!

I just spoke with MJ in the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop....She is going to take care of me completely.
She even mentioned that the factory pups can be Seymourized with a special rewinding procedure which will save me some money.

WOW and Thanks.

:bling:

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

The 7 string came in today !

Now who wants to be the first to dieeee?

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

Here's my OKKO pedal...

I chose this instead of getting the outrageously priced Lungren M7 pups.
Plus Seymour can probably beat Lundgren at a reasonable price.
And ...MJ does still work there and she already knows what I like from previous discussions.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

That's a killer looking guitar! Do you have battle gear to go with this axe? You're going to be experiencing some heavy combat my friend.:scratchch
