Show off your nylon stringers!

As the title says. Don't think we've had one like this for a while, if at all (since I've been on the forum, at any rate).

I've had this Admira Virtuoso for a pretty long time now – cedar/rosewood, mahogany neck. Robust, warm tone. Played other Admiras over the years and they didn't stack up. Not perfect in terms of fit/finish (it is a factory made guitar, after all), G string a bit tubby sounding, and a bit of a beast to play (gotta practice more, I guess :D), but damn good for the price bracket.

le sigh.

I wish I still had my old Aria Ariana classical. It was my first guitar EVER, and played like a dream.

One of these days I will get a classical again.

Mine is beat to crap but very sentimental. It was my Mom's before it was mine. Back in the 80s I mounted a mic inside and added a volume knob. Now it has a pezio in it. The action sucks on it so I use it for acoustic blues slide stuff. It is an old Wurlitzers Athena.

Cordoba C5 CE. By the way, do you guys use regular tension or hard tension nylon strings?

Re: Show off your nylon stringers!

I've always used hard tension - seems to bring out the best in the instrument in terms of fullness and sustain, though it's a bit harder to play. Some string makers have a different system, so their normal tension would be the equivalent of someone else's hard. Lower tensions are more recommended for flamenco guitars to complement the greater percussive attack and less sustain.

Took me a while to find the strings that I really like - used D'Addario Pro Arté for a long time but always found the G string too boomy; then used Savarez wound G in combination with D'Addario which was good but the wound G didn't sound balanced with the B and E. Now I'm using Galli Titanium Genius.

Re: Show off your nylon stringers!

I started using the hard tension D'Addario Pro Arte strings, and like them, but I break strings more often. It's usually the D string that snaps due the higher tension on it's thin core. For that reason, I backed down to regular tension. I still like the feel of hard tension though.

I set the guitar up really good, and it sounds monsterous through my Matchless Chieftain or Fender Pro Reverb, although I've got to flatten the EQ a bit. I wish I had an acoustic amp for it, but I doubt it would sound better than the good amps with tube rectifiers. I've always liked using acoustics into amps with tube rectifiers, because the touch responsiveness is so good. It's best to use the #2 inputs as well.

Got this little Ibanez right now that is a fun guitar to play live with the killer pickup system it has!

Re: Show off your nylon stringers!

I've always wanted to achieve any kind of virtuosity on classical guitar. I only know a few pieces and do not practice them at all.
