Let's see 'em. I'm thinking about doing a guitar assembly from the floor up, and felt like looking at the finishes y'all have done. Before and after pictures would really be cool. Thanks!!:)

Here is three of the five I have finished. The other is my work in progress.

Was supposed to be BSB but I got carried away with the tinted clear. I like it just the same.

Back in '06 I hand-sanded that ugly (IMO) see-thru red poly off, stained it with

And finished it with

And some wet sanding.

She's fun!

Do it man. You won't be dissapointed, provided you order everythign from Warmoth ( I am unaffilaited with Warmoth)
It'll be your personal guitar, and you'll love it!
Let Warmoth do everything, from a to z, and just assemble it, or have it assembled.
For a thousand or maybe 15 hunderd you can have the most choice players guitar you could ever imagine!

Re: Show Your Guitars That You've Stained/Painted/Finished/Refinished

aha..I'd like to hear about this!. I doubt Jolly bought anything. he's about one of the most tight fisted guys ive ever seen., and trust me on this, I've seen some tight fisted guys. haha. Don't get me wrong, its far beyond me to question the motives of guys like Jolly here, casue I'm in the minor leagues compared to them.

Re: Show Your Guitars That You've Stained/Painted/Finished/Refinished

Well there was this one, which was originally sunburst but someone had cut a hole in the middle for a third pickup. Once i'd repaired the woodwork, I realised there was no way I could 'repair' the burst, and a friend suggested a candy-apple finish, so that's what I did. This one is auto acrylic, with a gold metallic base.

Then there's this one, which I built from a block of Honduran mahogany I'd had for years (there's a thread about the build process in The Vault). This one is finished in Nitrocellulose. I'm kinda proud of the way I sanded the black burst away at the edges to create a mahogany 'binding' around the front edge. They said it couldn't be done ...

^^^^^^I loved getting all of your emails about the progress of the build during that time. It was hard to stay tight lipped about it.

Pardon? What are you talking about?

Re: Show Your Guitars That You've Stained/Painted/Finished/Refinished

I've only got one. When I bought it (for a dirt cheap price), my business partner/bass player looked at it and asked, "Why did you buy that piece of sh*t?". And I responded with, "Check out the neck." He looked at it and then said, "Oh. Okay, I get it.". The rest of the guitar looked like it had been run over by a tank. Part of the top horn was gone, there was a big chunk taken out of the peghead, and it had a friggin' Bigsby on it and even THAT was broken. I had my luthier put the stud tailpiece about an inch further back than they're normally located, for the purpose of some fake vibrato effects that I was hoping I could do, but it turned out that I didn't need to do that. However, what that placement DID do was help the sustain a ton. This guitar sustains as well as any Les Paul. And it's very dark sounding.

what pup is in the bridge?

No, it's a hybrid; a 59/Custom, if I recall correctly. I think the neck is a '59/Jazz. Check his thread in the vault if you really wanna know. Or if you just fancy a really great read.
