Shred fake (lesson)

Her Little Mojo Minion
Here's a little lick I've been meaning to show you dudes. It's a fun one cause it's pretty simple, but sounds like it's harder than it is.

Just a simple ionian lick that you can shift around about anywhere - I start at G ionian and shift to F:

Start slow, get warmed up, then let 'er rip! Fool your friends! I'm sure a lot of you shredders can play it faster/cleaner, so have at it!

p.s. if you have any simple licks that sound hard, or cool little shred tricks - post 'em up for us! I need some more in my bag-o-tricks.

Nice! There's this really good Friedman DVD called "Marty Friedman: 99 Secret Lead Guitar Phrases" that's pretty cool. Like you said, it's very helpful to have a library of licks up your sleeve to fall upon when you're starting to get stuck. Marty says that the point behind the DVD is that music is a language, and while people should learn music like they learn a language (morphology, syntax, etc) it sometimes is helpful to just focus on usable everyday phrases to learn how to "speak" faster.

As for cool licks, I've been trying some picking runs where large string skips with the pick are substituted for picking with the middle finger, like this one I stole from Takayoshi Ohmura (first example):

wow TC, that guy's incredible. I'm gonna try EX-3 (around 3:50) cause I think I can pull that off and I love the ending bends. EX-4 would be super hard!! I'm guessing it would take a long time to begin to utilize a picking finger in a fast lick.

I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for that friedman DVD - I need something like that. short, inspiring licks.
