*sigh*, i need a new amp, soundclip inside

Re: *sigh*, i need a new amp, soundclip inside

Can I just say from my 23 years of experience of playing and buying that I've yet to find THE perfect amp that has sparking cleans, killer gain, and just the right amps of wattage at any price I could afford. My solution was a simple, often overlooked one. I bought a Whirlwind A/B Selector box and now use my killer gain beast along with my sweet clean amp together and/or switching between the two. And to my ears, two amps at once or better then one.

I've got a Hiwatt Custom 50 that'll blow your door down, go next door, snatch your neighbor by the collar & head-butt him!!!!

As for the "open back" issue on your cab, I did the opposite with my 2x12: it's a closed back....I took the back, clamped it to some equal size plywood & using the screwholes from the back panel, I screwed it to the plywood. Cut out the main shape, divided it in 3...mounted the top & bottom panels & if I want a closed back, I just screw on the center panel.

Re: *sigh*, i need a new amp, soundclip inside

well, i loaded up my guitar, cab, and a couple pedals & drove across town to the peavis dealer

and the xxx is freakin SMOKIN

see, at first i didn't like it, too...metal, but, then i flipped it around to the back panel, saw the damping switch, moved it over to loose, and BAM, it was instantly like 20x better. It could use a retube...eventually, but I could play it stock & be happy with it

a retube would just push it from a 9 to a 9.5

and a mod on the clean channel from jeff would make it a 12 out of 10

I found my amp, thanks guys

Re: *sigh*, i need a new amp, soundclip inside

Wow... I'm actually REALLY surprised you like that thing. Not because I think it's a bad amp but because it didn't seem like it'd suit your needs but hey if it works it works!

Re: *sigh*, i need a new amp, soundclip inside

You only have the volume on the Amp at 1??. Once you crank the volume up the preamp will begin to kick in also. In most Amps the tone tends to be brittle when the volume is low, bringing the volume up will enhance the preamp dramatically. I would suggest to set the volume on at least 5 and see what happens. You may have the Amp that will work for you. Most of the tone you are hearing now is coming from the pedal. Bring the volume up, turn the pedal off and set the EQ to give you a decent sound...... Then set the pedal to enhance what you have!! Don't give up on the Amp until you can experiment at "playing" volume!!

Re: *sigh*, i need a new amp, soundclip inside

well, if you're talkin about the xxx, i cranked that mother

if you're talkin about the bassman/hotrod, i was saying that i loved the tone when it was on about 1 but it goes downhill, atleast in my opinion, after about 2

Re: *sigh*, i need a new amp, soundclip inside

hm, well that musta been a shot at me since you have a couple 5150's in the background

...thanks a lot rid

Re: *sigh*, i need a new amp, soundclip inside

seems that way, doesn't it?

well, if nothing else it teaches me what to look for & how to be smarter about these things

hopefully this one won't give me any trouble

and if nothing else, i'll still be crushing all those kids with warlocks & mg100's, heh

Re: *sigh*, i need a new amp, soundclip inside

Well that is why it is better to have alot of different amps.
I use two three guitars, and I use about 7 different amps, ranging from 6 to 200+ watts, one combo and the rest are tops or a small direct amp box.
Always test amps in bands, never buy small ones for loud music...they crap out way too early.
I think that the xxx has juice enough for you:D
Well hopefully..hehe good luck man!
