Hi I have an issue with my new Yamaha RGX 420DZII. After a few days of playing the orginal korean 3-way switch 'died'.

The original wiring and switch:

I replaced it with a new Schaller Megaswitch T based on Schaller wiring diagram for 2x HB (middle position both HB in parallel).

I finished the wiring, but the sound of the guitar was very weak, I mean like partialy muted, no nice clean and sharp sound. After rewiring it was bit better, but I found there is signal leak when the switch is in the bridge position, I still could hear little bit the neck pickup and oposite in the neck position, I could hear also litlle bit the bridge pick up. I guess it was something like 50% intensity of the selected pickup.

I bought new korean 3-way switch and rewired, but with the same result. There was still signal leak. I recorded a short video file of the problem:

Then I bought a Fender type 3-way switch and another korean. The result with the Fender type was the same, again signal leak, like all position are switch on irrespctive of the lever position.
I tried the new one korean switch and again, signal leak. Then I unsoledered all wires from the switch and tried the direct connection of the pickup to the volume pot, everything was fine. I ofcourse checked with multimeter if there is any shortcut, negative. I trid again to solder the switch output wire again and one of pickups and this time there was no signal leak when the switch was in the opposite position. After soldering the seconf pick up, it was also fine, now it works, but I'm frustrated, becasue I haven't find any mistake, any bad soldering, nothing what could caused the signal leak and ofcourse I'm affraid now to open the cover of the guitar.

Any idea what can cuase this signal leak ? The inside paint is conductive.

Re: Signal leak 2x HB 3-way switch

Have you tried a different wiring diagram yet?

No, but I tried another switch, the same type as the original one. Re-solder them several times and it startem to work. Unfortunately still don’t know what was wrong.

Re: Signal leak 2x HB 3-way switch

Tom, Is that your hand drawn diagram? Is that a capacitor between the volume pot lugs and a capacitor on the tone pot? 2 caps?
I think the signal is leaking through the wire from the middle volume pot to the output jack.

How have you wired the 3-switch/schaller? I don't understand it from that drawing. The schematic is right, though it has at least one useless wire.
