Re: Signature guitars......Why?

I would never buy one to honor the player. But if the player had the same tonal/playability preferences as me I would buy one.

Re: Signature guitars......Why?

Well, I own a couple of Les Pauls...

I find the idea of nested signatures funny - the Ace Frehley Les Paul, the Jimmy Page Les Paul... how many generations could you go with that? :)

The Rory Gallagher Strats seem crazy to me. I absolutely love Rory but I don't want a Strat beaten up exactly to match his, especially at that price.

The Jimmie Vaughan Strat on the other hand seems like a really nicely appointed and sensibly-priced instrument. I'd like one of those!

Jim Root Telecaster: the guy actually uses a neck-through, or at least that's what a quick forum search suggests.

thats one of the closest spec'ed guitars to how i would ideally have it be, in this case for a tele. only with an 85 in the bridge instead of an 81. i may buy one of those eventually, my collection is lacking in the fender department.

the john sykes LP (edwards, i wouldnt dream of buying the gibson) is another thats **** near dead on how i would have it. except id like bigger fretwire.

how what would be easier? finding a mahogany tele, putting bigger frets on it, refinishing, and getting new pickups; buying an LP custom and changing the hardware and pickups, or buying one of these. THAT is why signature guitars are useful.

*edit- i find it amusing to note that as close as these are to what i like, i havent made any effort to purchase either. :laugh2: thats more financially than anything, but still

Re: Signature guitars......Why?

I bought a Dean Dimebag FBD ML:

A) In tribute to the man and my hero

B) cause it was a good price

C) cause its sounds and plays wicked

. . . . . But I'll be honest the Dime factor was the main reason and I haven't regretted it for a second!!

Re: Signature guitars......Why?

I play Vai's guitar with Petrucci's pickups and Satch's amp and I still somehow sound like myself. Go figure. :p

Re: Signature guitars......Why?

I really really really want an EJ signature strat....but that's about the only signature edition guitar I dig...well, maybe the Sheryl Crow Gibson Acoustic..but only because I tried one once and it blew away every other acoustic guitar in the store, period

Re: Signature guitars......Why?

If I'm going to buy a guitar, who else plays it is not on my list of requirements.

Allison Robertson from the Donnas played an SG just like mine. I like her playing alright. Does that mean I want to be a clone of her? Well, yes, because I'd be attractive but regardless.
