Re: Silver Archer vs Gold Archer Ikon

Just don’t tell me it sounds more like a Klon than the actual Klons did.

Re: Silver Archer vs Gold Archer Ikon

Identical components = 1:1 copy. The only difference (with this one) is the gain pot conductor routing and op-amp sockets. I wired this one direct to the dual-pot; leaving out the peripheral junction board. I've seen pics where people are using the same ribbon cable that Bill used on his KLON pedals, so maybe there's something there. Honestly, I think I had forgotten just how great my KLON's sounded. If I had either one of those pedals today, I doubt I'd be able to (audibly) tell one from the other.

Notice that I left out the gain pot pcb... All dual-pot conductors (and LED) are soldered directly to the main board. I also used gold pin op-amp sockets from my personal stock.

just resurrecting this thread because i tried out a bunch of expensive pedals today. Kept narrowing it down until it was between the two rockett archers. I bought the silver one because it was less squishy than the gold one.

Re: Silver Archer vs Gold Archer Ikon

Since this thread, I bought a discontinued BYOC Silver Pony kit (found one on Reverb). I compared it to a silver Klon and couldn't hear a difference. But even better than that- I liked the sound.

Re: Silver Archer vs Gold Archer Ikon

Since this thread, I bought a Wampler Tumnus Deluxe based on word of mouth, the overall reputation of Wampler pedals, and a tryout sesh where I found it to sound sweet without being syrupy. So now I have an alternative to the Soul Food for a Klonish-sounding pedal.

Re: Silver Archer vs Gold Archer Ikon

I prefer the Gold much more with Single Coils. With Humbuckers I found both great.

I run my IKON Archer on all the time...love it. -but honestly it's a super revealing sound -you will hear more nuance and detail in your playing -every mistake or flub will jump out too -so I would advise people to think about the context and style of your playing and music before using a Klone pedal.
